You might also think about the impact on you personally, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. You seem like a smart, articulate, funny, grounded, all-around nice guy from your posts. Would the porn industry be a positive or a negative personally?

One of my regulars was prominent in porn for the last 3 years or so, worked with all the major studios, was an exclusive to one for a while. He recently retired from both porn and escorting and remains a close friend. Frankly, working in porn drove him slightly nuts. I got the clear impression that, while there are lots of good people working in porn, the ratio of assholes, exploiters, substance abusers, over-inflated egos and douchenozzles was much higher than in most other career paths. (OTOH, he loved the escort side of things). The change in his demeanor once he left was amazing, and he's now a genuinely happy guy.

Of course, everyone is different and you may have been working with positive, supportive people to date and/or be more impervious to the bullshit, but seems like something you might want to think through.

FWIW, I know from him that the porn definitely had a positive impact on the escorting side of things financially. But, he's also run into the concern about the porn being somewhat of a restraint on subsequent career options. YMMV.

As a slightly off-topic aside, with the exception of my friend and the recently retired Gabriel L'Enfant, just about every porn dude I've hired in the past has been a pretty crappy escort.

Stella's was for pick-ups. It seemed that the dancers at Cats weren't necessarily available for anything but lap dances. I'm sure there were exceptions. I never tried at the bar. It was always so packed. An escort I hired took me there for the 1st time. Real dive, but I enjoyed it too.

If I get a room specifically to meet up with someone and I'm going to let them stay solo in it overnight after our appointment, one condition is no other hires. For those who prefer to travel for safety reasons - do you only travel to their hotels? Would you travel to their home? It seems to me that's just as risky.

I think this relevant since it could be a factor in the OP's question.

If I'm on the road, I'll always invite them to my hotel (unless they're travelers too and are in a hotel I've always wanted to check out).

If I hire somebody local, right or wrong I'm less worried from a safety/ripoff standpoint if I know where they live. Google Maps is your friend as well. Still, I've wound up in a couple of guys' apartments which should be declared biohazards.

I do not host. When reading an escorts ad, if he says out calls only I do not contact him. Once, an escort had forgot to put that in his ad, so when I asked if he hosted he said no. He stated that he would get the hotel room and would pay for it. He asked me to promise that I would show. I did and had a great time. When I left, I tipped extra to help with the hotel room. He noticed and said thanks.

I'm in DC and don't invite guys to my home first time I meet up with them unless they have a stellar reputation or I've had a recommendation from someone I trust. (Plus, I usually have to get a hotel room (board) my dog since Bradley always whimpers at the door if he's not invited in. Apparently he's a bit of a prude.)
