Published by The Sacramento Bee SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Southern California Senate hopeful Rep. Katie Porter, D-Irvine, made her first Sacramento-area campaign stop Wednesday at UC Davis — what she called “a little slice of heaven” — in an hour-long meet-and-greet with the Davis College Democrats. “I see Sacramento as distinct from the Bay Area the same way that I see Orange County as different than Los Angeles,’” Porter said in an interview after the event. “I know that we often overlook everything but LA and the Bay … but I’m really committed to making sure that I see all of California.” Porter announced her run for Senate … Read More View the full article

Published by AFP People wait in line to hear a case challenging the legality of medication abortion at the J Marvin Jones Federal Building and Courthouse in Amarillo, Texas Washington (AFP) – Until 2019, Matthew Kacsmaryk was a lawyer representing a Christian organization aligned with the religious right. Now a US federal judge, he is set to decide the future of abortion pills across the country. The 45-year-old Kacsmaryk has been in the spotlight ever since a coalition of anti-abortion activists sued the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seeking to overturn the federal agency’s approval of mifepristone over 20 years ago. By filing the suit in Amarillo, Texas, plaintiffs were certain to have Kacsmaryk oversee the case, as he is the only sitting federal judge in the city. That was not a coincidence, said ACLU project director Jennifer Dalven. The group behind the suit “was able to hand-select their judge,” picking one who “has issued a series of radical decisions” on hot-button social issues, Dalven said. “In any rational universe, this case would be laughed out of court on multiple grounds.” Conservative opponents to abortion rights have closed ranks around Kacsmaryk, who was appointed by former president Donald Trump and confirmed in 2019 by the then-Republican-controlled Senate. The judge is “the latest target of judicial intimidation” whose “real offense is his background litigating religious liberty cases,” said Carrie Severino, who leads the conservative legal group Judicial Crisis Network. Before assuming his life-long post as a federal judge, Kacsmaryk was a lawyer for the First Liberty Institute, a Texas-based group that focused on cases surrounding religious freedom. Those included representing bakers who refused to make a wedding cake for same-sex couples because it violated their Christian beliefs, and supporting a public high school coach who was fired after praying on the field with students. While at First Liberty Institute, Kacsmaryk openly opposed the Supreme Court’s landmark decision to legalize same-sex marriage as well as transgender people’s choice to use bathrooms of their gender identity. In a 2015 article, he decried the “sexual revolution” which he said was “spearheaded by secular libertines.” “Even the unborn child must yield to the erotic desires of liberated adults,” Kacsmaryk said. When the Senate was considering his nomination — confirmation of the president’s picks requires a simple majority — Democrats were strongly opposed, voting en bloc against him. Democratic leader Chuck Schumer at the time described Kacsmaryk as having “demonstrated a hostility to the LGBTQ bordering on paranoia.” Kacsmaryk nonetheless vowed that once in office, he would judge impartially without letting his beliefs influence his decisions. While he has mostly dealt with low-level cases since taking office in Amarillo, Kacsmaryk has already ruled once against the Biden administration when it comes to reproduction-related issues. Late last year, he ruled that a federal program which funds contraception for minors without their parents’ consent was illegal — although he did not order an immediate halt to the program. His sister, whose child Kacsmaryk helped place up for adoption when she gave birth at 17, now believes he is the right person to decide the mifepristone case. “I feel like he was made for this,” Jennifer Griffith, still an opponent to abortion rights, told The Washington Post. “He is exactly where he needs to be.” View the full article

Published by The Citizen Uganda’s Parliament’s Legal Affairs committee on Wednesday, March 15, started hearing views from different stakeholders about the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023. The proponent of the Bill, Mr Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri Municipality), who was the first to interface with the committee, said the act is against the order of nature and that if no punitive action is taken against the proponents, the victims will continue to suffer. He also said married people who engage in anal or oral penetrative sex should be punished under the new law. “I have had an opportunity to speak to some counsellors; they ha… Read More View the full article

I used to live in Arlington and now live south of there in Alexandria. I absolutely appreciated having my car. Parking in the city itself sucks, but outside in Maryland and Virginia is nowhere near as bad. The question will become if parking is included where you end up living. If there is an extra cost. It may make you reconsider.

On Monday, March 13, the Queen of Pop took to social media with a series of strange snaps that featured the 64-year-old sprawled across the floor with a group of people. @madonna/instagram Madonna, who was wearing a fitted black corset dress and red platform pumps, was joined by her son David Banda as she threw herself around the floor of what appeared to be a photoshoot set. Banda appeared unfazed by his mom locking lips with his 29-year-old boxing coach, Josh Popper, last week, as the mother-son duo seemed closer than ever in the series of snaps. @madonna/instagram The “Material Girl” singer also shared video footage of the behind-the-scenes activities via another Instagram post, which she paired with audio from her hit song “4 Minutes” featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. “And the Oscar goes to…” Madonna stated while having her makeup touched up before the clip transitioned into her fooling around on the ground, which showcased a huge pencil drawing of a pair of hands. Some internet trolls weren’t pleased to see Madonna returning to her bizarre behaviors so quickly after suffering a “crisis of confidence” following her immense Grammys backlash in February. @madonna/instagram “LESS IS MORE!!! I think we will never see a laconic and clean look on M ever again…first were grilled, second was never-ending crosses and necklaces, and now these ‘custom-made’ corsets. Can anybody from the team say ‘No’ to her?” one hater criticized of Madonna’s outfit choices. A second user stated: “This inability to accept her age is unfortunate and puts out the message to young women that they have to stay looking 20 forever. That old is boring and should be hidden rather than embraced. Just a shame.” A majority of Madonna’s followers were more focused on what countries will be included on the pop star’s tour date after she shared an exciting updated about her concerts just three days prior. “New tour dates being announced soon……… !!” the mother-of-six confirmed via Instagram, as fans from all across the world quickly begged the “Like a Virgin” singer to add their homes as a stop on The Celebration Tour, which is set to kick off Saturday, July 15, in Vancouver. Published by BANG Showbiz English Gwyneth Paltrow has found rectal ozone therapy to be “very helpful”. The 50-year-old actress has revealed that the therapy – which involves having gas delivered via a catheter into the colon – is the weirdest wellness treatment she’s ever tried. During an appearance on the ‘Art of Being Well’ podcast, Gwyneth explained: “I have used ozone therapy, rectally. Can I say that? It’s pretty weird. It’s pretty weird, yeah. But it’s been very helpful.” The Oscar-winning actress also revealed that she’s consumed ketone drinks as part of her wellness journey. Gwyneth observed that the drinks taste like “cherry gasoline”. She said: “It helps with cognition and brain fog and energy. I have it with green tea in the afternoon. It tastes pretty, pretty bad. “I believe that they are coming out with an improved flavour or an improved version, which is very exciting.” Meanwhile, Gwyneth previously revealed that she’d “barely” drunk alcohol after being diagnosed with COVID-19. The Hollywood star – who was diagnosed with the virus in 2020 – explained: “It’s been a long year of barely any alcohol, I mean I’ve had a sip here and there but very rarely. “You know me, I love a drink, I love the ritual of it, and I love to sit down and have one and chat. I love the taste of alcohol, like, I love whisky and wine and, whatever, vodka. I’ll take it all. “But I think what happened was, having gotten COVID and having felt like s***, or like having had long COVID stuff for a while, I just didn’t feel vibrant.” The actress had COVID “early on” and she was subsequently encouraged to change her diet by a medical expert. Gwyneth explained: “I didn’t feel good, and I had really high inflammation levels and the doctor was like, ‘Look, you really need to clean up your act. You gotta, at least for three months, no alcohol, no grains, no sugar, nothing processed,’ everything like that.” View the full article

Published by BANG Showbiz English Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana were once arrested for impersonating police officers. The Duchess of York – who was previously married to Prince Andrew – has revealed that she and the late princess were both arrested during a bachelorette party in the mid-1980s, when they were dressed in police uniforms. During an appearance on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, the duchess recalled: “We went into this nightclub, and the waiter came up to us and said, ‘Excuse me, this is a members club and it’s for fun and we don’t serve police officers here.’ Looking straight at us.” The duchess and Diana – who died in Paris in August 1997, aged 36 – were arrested for impersonating officers. However, they were quickly released once the police discovered their true identities. The duchess continued: “We were then arrested. “We go in the back of the van, and she had put her engagement ring the other way, and I had put my engagement ring the other way. And we are sitting, like this … and she just looked around and saw smoky bacon-flavoured crisps and started taking them and eating them. And the policeman in the front goes, ‘You can’t do that,’ and then eventually they realised that it was Diana and me.” The duchess – who was married to Andrew between 1986 and 1996 – also revealed that the princess taught her some important lessons about royal life. She quipped: “I’d got straight into dinner, because she had been there a few years before me, she used to run like a gazelle to get into the dining room quicker than me. I thought, ‘That’s a bit strange,’ and when I got in, I realised why, because she got the young people and I got all the old people.” View the full article

Published by BANG Showbiz English Sir Elton John is planning a huge holiday after wrapping up his farewell tour but is still keen to make new music. The 75-year-old pop star has been married to David Furnish since 2005 and is due to wrap up his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour in July – which was scheduled to run across three years but ended up being stretched out to five because of the COVID-19 pandemic – and teased that another album is on the cards when he quits touring for good. He is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “I finish in July and then I am going to go on a vacation with family for two months, and then I am probably going to think about making a record. But I haven’t really thought about who I am going to make it with yet. Now that I have stopped touring, I will have more time.” The ‘Crocodile Rock’ hitmaker – who has sons Zachary, 12, and 10-year-old Elijah with David – completed the Australian leg of the tour in January and is set to return for a string of shows on home soil from March 23 before going on to Europe and eventually closing out the entire run with a headlining slot at Glastonbury in June. Just days ago, Elton – who most recently released a reworked version of his hit track ‘Tiny Dancer’ titled ‘Hold Me Closer’ with fellow pop legend Britney Spears – was praised for his constant “hunger” for new music. Rina Sawayama, who was brought over to Los Angeles to perform at the star’s annual Oscars viewing party on Sunday (12.03.23), said: “Elton John was a stranger that changed my life. He reached out to me because he was a fan of my music. I’m surprised how charitable he lives his life because he’s literally the most famous musician in the whole world. “He wants to be so in touch with what’s going on in the world, whether it’s new artists – he’s always so hungry and that’s always been inspiring.” View the full article

Published by BANG Showbiz English Brooke Shields “blamed herself” when she was sexually assaulted in Hollywood more than 30 years ago. The 57-year-old model mistakenly believed she was having a meeting about a part in a movie when she was invited to a hotel room in the 1990s but thought no-one would believe her if she told of the attack and since opening up about the incident in her new Hulu documentary ‘Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby’, explained that it is a “miracle” she survived the trauma. She told this week’s edition of PEOPLE: “People weren’t believing those stories back then. I thought I would never work again. Doing the documentary, you see it all together, and it’s a miracle that I survived. It’s taken me a long time to process it. I’m more angry now than I was able to be then. If you’re afraid, you’re rightfully so. They are scary situations. They don’t have to be violent to be scary. I thought I was getting a movie job, I didn’t fight, I just froze. “I kept saying, ‘I shouldn’t have done that. Why did I go up with him? I shouldn’t have had that drink at dinner.'” The ‘Suddenly Susan’ star – who has daughters Rowan, 16, and 16-year-old Grier with husband Chris Henchy but was initially married to married to tennis champion Andre Agassi from 1997 to 1999 – went on to add that she has always had a “disassociation” with her own sexuality and was able to put herself into a “fight-or-flight” mode after the alleged attack as she admitted it was “easier” to shut off the whole ordeal because of her career. She added: “It was really easy to disassociate because by then it was old hat. And because it was a fight-or-flight type of choice. Fight was not an option, so you just leave your body. ‘You’re not there. It didn’t happen. It was really easy to disassociate because by then it was old hat,” she recalls. “And because it was a fight-or-flight type of choice. Fight was not an option, so you just leave your body. ‘You’re not there. It didn’t happen. “I was mostly a cover girl, so it’s all here. And it was just easier to shut myself off. I was good at it.” ‘Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby’ streams on Hulu from April 3. View the full article

Published by BANG Showbiz English Samantha Ronson thinks it is “great” that her ex-girlfriend Lindsay Lohan is pregnant. The 45-year-old DJ dated ‘Mean Girls’ actress Lindsay, 36, – who is now married to businessman Bader Shammas- for a short period of time in the late 2000s and has sent her well-wishes to her former girlfriend following the news that she and her husband are expecting. She told TMZ: “I wish her all the best. It’s always great news when someone is expecting a baby!” At the time of their split in 2009, Lindsay remarked that she just wanted to “focus on herself” and after returning to acting last year in ‘Falling For Christmas’ after more than a decade away reflected that she and Samantha were ” always more like best friends” than a romantic couple. On Tuesday, ‘Freaky Friday’ star Lindsay took to Instagram to share a snap of a white baby onesie that reads “coming soon…” Lindsay captioned the photo: “We are blessed and excited! [prayer, heart and baby emojis] (sic)” A rep for the couple said: “We are very excited for our new family member to arrive and we are looking forward to this next chapter of our lives!” Lindsay started her career as a child actress, first appearing on the soap opera ‘Another World’ before getting her big break in the dual role of long-lost twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in the 1998 comedy ‘The Parent Trap’ alongside Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson. But now, the actress thinks it’s important to strike a healthy balance between her work life and her professional life. She recently explained: “You can take breaks, but you just have to know when the time is right. Because it’s also good to keep the pace going. “You become a family when you’re on a set, and then when the project wraps, it just stops. So it’s like a culture shock – you don’t know what to do with yourself. It’s good to keep your mind active. View the full article

Published by OK Magazine mega Donald Trump allegedly attempted to cover up his messy 2006 affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election because he was “scared” his wife, Melania, would find out, according to biographer Tim O’Brien. mega “I don’t think he was only worried about his campaign potentially getting blown up,” the author of TrumpNation: The Art of Being The Donald explained during his appearance on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House on Sunday, March 12. “I think he was also worried about his marriage getting blown up.” Noted O’Brien, “Donald Trump has a long history of cheating on his wives, and I think he was probably more afraid at that point of Melania Trump than he was of the electorate, so he had a motivation to try and get this out of the way.” mega ‘Fox & Friends’ Host Brian Kilmeade Criticizes President Joe Biden For Constantly Blaming Emerging Problems On Donald Trump Donald Trump Fires Back At Mike Pence, Says He’s To ‘Blame’ For January 6 Capitol Attack Mike Pence Harshly Criticizes Donald Trump For His Role In The January 6 Capital Attack: ‘His Reckless Words Endangered My Family’ This comes four months after Trump’s former senior aide Kellyanne Conway testified to a panel that while the embattled ex-president listened to many of his advisors, he “reserves fear for one person, Melania Trump.” Donald and Melania tied the knot in 2005 — one year before his reported flings with the adult film actress, as well as Playboy model Karen McDougal, who alleged she also had an entanglement with the controversial businessman in 2006. Donald and Melania share one son, 16-year-old Barron Trump. mega As for Stormy, she previously spilled toOK! that she found being constantly asked about the scandal to be “exhausting and eyerolling,” but not “surprising.” “Every time he pops out, I wish he would go away,” the 43-year-old dished at the time. “But you know what? Published by DPA The eighth studio album from US singer Miley Cyrus sweeps across various genres, from psychedelia to country and hard rock, all while apparently looking backwards on her life until now. Yui Mok/PA Wire/dpa A decade and a half after she started making records — first as her Disney Channel alter ego, Hannah Montana, then as herself (or maybe “herself”) — Miley Cyrus on her eighth studio album sounds like a woman looking back at everywhere she’s been, both musically and emotionally, and assessing where all her travels have put her now, newly divorced and having just entered her 30s. The LP is called “Endless Summer Vacation,” which gets at the coolly euphoric country-disco vibe of a song like “Flowers,” the smash lead single that spent six weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100 on its way to racking up more than a billion streams. But the true subject of these dozen tunes (plus a bonus-track demo of “Flowers”) is the hard work of introspection and the even harder work of self-reliance. “I love when you hold me / But loving you is never enough,” she sings in “Wildcard,” the sting of acceptance still fresh in her voice, “Don’t wait for me / ‘Cause forever may never come.” How to account for the enormous success of “Flowers”? Though she’s never lacked for showbiz visibility — see her recent New Year’s Eve TV special where she sang with Dolly Parton and David Byrne — Cyrus was a long way from her previous No. 1, 2013’s “Wrecking Ball,” when she recorded the winning empowerment jam with Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson, the same duo that produced Harry Styles’ Grammy-winning “Harry’s House.” And perhaps their golden touch had something to do with it; perhaps it’s the lyrical and melodic DNA the song shares with Bruno Mars’ chart-topping “When I Was Your Man,” a supposed favorite of Cyrus’ ex-husband actor Liam Hemsworth. But “Flowers,” which fans have heard as an explicit response to “When I Was Your Man,” also captures this veteran shapeshifter in just the right spot: peeved but amused, shady yet sincere. Thematically, “Endless Summer Vacation” revolves around Cyrus’ split from Hemsworth; she fondly recalls some of their good times, identifies red flags that arose eventually, ponders the pleasures and the complications of singledom and finally rediscovers a longing for romance. (In addition to Johnson and Kid Harpoon and other established pop pros such as Greg Kurstin, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Mike Will Made It, the singer’s studio collaborators here include her current boyfriend, musician Maxx Morando.) Stylistically, the songs pull from all over the place. Like the actor she is, Cyrus in the past used each of her albums to explore a single genre: hip-hop on “Bangerz,” psychedelia on “Her Dead Petz,” country music on “Younger Now” — remember that before she was a Disney kid she was the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus — and hard rock on “Plastic Hearts.” Yet “Endless Summer Vacation” jams together bits of all that stuff as she moves through heartbreak to savor the clarity that follows. What holds the music together is Cyrus’ singing, which stood out easily from the likes of Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers in the mid-2000s and which still feels distinct now that she’s competing with SZA and Taylor Swift. In “Jaded” and “Muddy Feet,” she emphasizes the grainy texture in her voice over stomping rock grooves; “Rose Colored Lenses” has her rounding the edges of each phrase with a woozy sensuality. Brandi Carlile shows up to belt alongside Cyrus in the blippy-folky “Thousand Miles,” but she hangs back in the mix, limiting herself to ghostly high harmonies against Cyrus’ low growl. “River” and “Violet Chemistry” are the album’s most rhythmic cuts, with Cyrus doling out quick staccato lines amid ravey synths played in part in the latter by James Blake. And “You” is the album’s vocal centrepiece: a saloon-ready retro-soul ballad à la Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain” in which Cyrus channels the yearning of someone gingerly entering a new relationship and that same someone’s reluctance to get hurt again. Indeed, her singing is vivid enough on “Endless Summer Vacation” to make up for some mushy songwriting here and there: “Fingers start to dance along the figures and the shapes,” goes one line in “Violet Chemistry,” “mixing all the colours like we’re making a Monet.” (Yikes.) But to get too hung up on a cringey lyric is to miss the point of Miley Cyrus at this phase of her weird, winding, one-of-one career. As she puts it in “Thousand Miles”: “I’m out of my mind / But still I’m holding on like a rolling stone.” View the full article

Published by BANG Showbiz English Azealia Banks was once so “broke” she had to sleep in storage space. The 31-year-old rap star now has an estimated net worth of $3 milllion but admitted there was a time when there was no work coming in for her despite her fame and ended up sleeping rough. She told Dazed magazine: “There was a point in time when people didn’t want to book me. I had n***** stealing my royalties and all type of s***. “Like, there was a point in time when I was so f****** broke that I was sleeping in a storage space. You know, famous and broke.” The ‘Broke with Expensive Taste’ hitmaker has made various controversial comments over the years including joking that she wanted to “spray a gay man in the face with pepper spray” and ended up banned from Twitter in 2020 over a series of tweets deemed transphobic but insisted that others are also capable of making “bad jokes”, quipping that they also get paid for it. She said: “Everybody makes a bad joke sometimes. Like, who cares? Quentin Tarantino gets paid $500m to make really bad jokes all the time, you know? Come on. Let me get my s*** off!” Meanwhile, Azealia lost her dad at the age of two to a battle with cancer and was often left wondering if her mother would ever come back following her schizophrenia diagnosis, leaving the future rap star to be raised by caretakers. She said: “I was raised by Dominican caretakers. My mom would throw them a couple thousand dollars and just disappear for five weeks. I would just be in my head, like, ‘Does my mother not want me anymore? Is she coming back? Is she alive?’ She would brag about how she did witchcraft and killed my father!” View the full article

Published by The Kansas City Star Kansas City-based endocrinologist Brandon Barthel has provided care for transgender adults for six years, including helping them go through hormone therapy. When he sees patients and talks to colleagues these days, he sometimes hears fear. The onslaught of legislation across Missouri, Kansas and much of the country targeting gender-affirming care has unsettled the region’s small community of providers and the patients who turn to these doctors, counselors and others to help them navigate difficult questions of gender and sex. Barthel worries the measures have created a chilling effect on docto… Read More View the full article

Published by St. Louis Post-Dispatch It’s problematic enough that a federal judge in Texas known for his aggressively right-wing politics from the bench is presiding over a lawsuit that seeks to outlaw a widely used abortion drug. If past is prelude, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk will do whatever he can to aid the anti-choice plaintiffs — as demonstrated by his remarkably brazen attempt this week to thwart protests and media coverage of the case. Kacsmaryk is a Donald Trump appointee who has a history of controversial rulings on immigration, LGBTQ rights and other issues. In the current case, he tried to postpone putting a Wednesday he… Read More View the full article

Published by Chicago Tribune CHICAGO — Margot Douaihy reached Chicago’s Lincoln Park in a roundabout way. She grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She came from a religious family and a long line of clergy. She went to Catholic school, but as she got older, Douaihy felt distanced from the church. She was queer and in the closet. She moved to Massachusetts and became a poet. Several years ago, when she decided to tiptoe toward her love of mystery novels, she came up with a kind of homage to the hard-boiled detective thriller, with a twist: Her amateur sleuth was a queer badass nun. The book critiqued institutions, foreground… Read More View the full article

Published by BANG Showbiz English Diplo has “got a b*** job from a guy” before but doesn’t think it is “that gay”. The ‘Lean On’ producer – who has previously dated the likes of Katy Perry and M.I.A. – admitted he has received oral sex from a man in the past but doesn’t want to “define” himself as homosexual, though he could potentially see himself with a male “life-partner”. Speaking to Emily Ratajkowski on her ‘High Low’ podcast, he said: “I don’t want to define that I’m gay, but I think the best answer I have is I’m not not gay. “There’s a couple guys that I’d be like, ‘I could date this guy… life partner-wise.’ I’m not really aroused by men that much, that I know about. “I’m sure that I’ve got a b*** job from a guy before. I’ve got a lot of b*** jobs… Getting a b*** job’s not that gay, I think.” The 44-year-old producer – whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz – began talking about his sexuality after he explained his TikTok algorithm has recently showed him a number of “hot guys” chipping wood. Emily, 31, the asked if TikTok is why Diplo knows he isn’t completely heterosexual. He replied: “Maybe. The wood-chopping guy is kinda sexy. They’re hot guys, but I don’t know if that’s gonna be the thing that’s gonna set me over into the gay side, totally, is the wood-choppers, but they’re pretty hot guys.” He then described himself as “more of a vibe guy” than being concerned about a person’s gender, and he’s reflected on how “fluid” younger men seem to be now than when he was growing up. He said: “Men that are younger than me, and I meet a lot in the scene, they’re very fluid. It never was like that when I was in high school. “There was definitely like, you had gay kids in school, and you had gay cousins or whatever. It was different than it is now. “We knew that there was gay kids in middle school, but high school, there was always a small gay community at every school. “When everybody was coming out, like ‘Doss is gay,’ all these artists were gay, I felt like it wasn’t crazy. “It’s just weird how the temperature of our culture changed so much, but I thought it was never weird to be gay.” View the full article

In the end, it should not exceed the FDIC's reserve. Their problem was people tried to pull 85B out of the bank at once but SVB had invested most of those deposits into illiquid “hold to maturity” securities (bonds and mortgage backed securities). They could not come up with or raise the funds in time. The assets are still there. The FDIC will temporarily gain a bunch of securities while they front the cash or get other buyers. But in the end, I don't think we won't see anything nearly that big in an actual loss once everything is settled. (Edited to add "not" as I missed it)

To circle back on this... StarGZ has magically made his way back to spam more than 100 people via PM with a plea of innocence. This heartfelt plea of someone who is not the provider and not in any way related to @pdxrick also just happens to only refer to me as "Radiobob". This matches other behavior where the provider created nearly a dozen accounts and flooded the site with short 1-2 word replies in an effort to make it appear they were not only defending the provider. (Anyone remember the Deli having literally 3 pages of replies each with just a couple of words?) I've never done this before, but I recommend our members not hire or interact with this provider in any way. He clearly has issues with telling the truth and potentially other mental health issues as well. (Note: I'm not a doctor and I'm not qualified to diagnose issues. This is simply my own personal observation from interactions with the provider across over a dozen accounts.) Going forward, any further topics around this provider will automatically be locked with a reply directing people back to this thread. This site will not be used to create a false narrative using fake accounts to promote/defend a provider.
