I wouldn't take chances on a 40/60 uber ride. I would stay home. There's an old Spanish saying: Do you move the piano to the stool or the stool to the piano? He lives 1 hour away, good for him and it must be cheap.... if he has to hire and most guys are one hour away, he should either pick someone nearby or adapt to the circumstances.

A 1 hour commute is never comfortable please don't do it again unless he's willing to pay upfront for it. Nowadays there are ways to send a deposit or order an Uber with just a few clicks, something that didn't exist a decade ago. Technology IS your friend, use it! I'm still wondering if he did the prank, or it was a setup by someone else. The fact that he thought the whole thing was funny makes me think he has lots of issues.
