Scott, thanks for relating this story.  I think that this is the appropriate response.  Glad that it worked out for you.

Guy, I agree with your assessment.  No such thing was offered with the 4AM message.  As stated, he was a traveller so I am pretty sure that he's out of my area now.  So, I wasted an hour of time and probably a gallon of gasoline.

I had this occur recently, although with a local masseur, not a traveling one.
I arrived at his studio (in an office building) at the agreed time and his door was locked.  I texted repeatedly with no response.  I called and left him a voice message; waited 15 minutes and left.  An hour later, he texted me back saying he had obviously just massaged someone who was not me!  He offered that we reschedule two days later and he Zelled me $40 for my inconvenience--AND he offered me my first massage free of charge, 90 minutes.  It was so good and I was so impressed with his response that I have been back twice and am about to book again.  A very fine person and excellent masseur.

The appointment was originally at 10pm.  He contacted me at 8pm to ask to push it back to 10:30.  I showed up 10:32 and sent a text message.  I waited 15min and, hearing nothing, drove home.  He messaged me 4am saying that he'd fallen asleep.  I messaged back that I'd assumed that that is what happened.  No other communication after that.

So, would be interested in comments from all of you.  This has happened twice now and would appreciate your thoughts.
    First off, my givens:
         1.  Massage is a physically demanding job and makes masseurs tired.
         2.  Travelling masseurs may also have jet lag to deal with travelling across time zones.
         3.  Travelling masseurs to my city (Boston) are often very busy due to the inadequate number of masseurs for a city of this  size.
With that as background, I made an appointment with a masseur for later in the evening.  Drove to the location.  Messaged him that I had parked.  No response.  Waited 15min and then drove home, assuming that he had fallen asleep.  Indeed, that is what happened.
What should happen next?  Immediate re-schedule with discount?  Immediate re-schedule with free massage?  Nothing at all--so sad/too bad?  Other options?

Funny thing. Just after posting I received 5 text back. Some where traveling and not even in town yet. I also loath that.
So many times I reach out and they are like oh I am not in town until tomorrow etc.
Moat of the other people were either a. Out of town, b. Not working, c. Fully booked.
Ijust wish their was a way I didn't have to waste my time trying to figure out who is available and when.
I wish more would use some version of a schedule app.

And I think that is the crux of the situation here.  You're welcome to ask and he's welcome not to answer.  While he's not required to provide a response, you can make a decision as to if you want to see him or not.  I think this played out exactly like it should have.

Great idea Radio Rob! In addition to the above, I would also add:
Massage skills rating (novice to Pro)
Time booked vs. actual time spent
In call vs Out call. If in call - ambiance, cleanliness, and ease of access.
Amenities offered (water, shower, massage table vs bed, music, choice of massage oil/cream)

So much truth in what others have said here. We are still in the first wave of infections in the US; the geography just changed, and maybe the demographics as more Millennials and Gen Zs get infected. Younger people appear to have a lower hospitalization rate, maybe as low as 4% while for older people >65 years, it may be 20%. Proportionally, people of color appear to be getting hit harder than Caucasians but that may be amplified by socioeconomic and co-morbidity factors. But, all in all, the virus doesn't care who you are, and whether it makes you symptomatic or not - for its success strategy, it's better having people up and about and spreading the infections person-to-person, which makes Millennials and GenZs (our favorite phenotype of masseur) prime vectors for transmission.

We are learning a lot about the virus incredibly fast. But with speed comes a lot of preliminary conclusions that turn out to be wrong - a lot of headlines are coming from scientific preprints that have not completed the review process. The popular press takes the preliminary conclusions, amplifies them, and maybe politicizes them. Then when something turns out to be false, there usually isn't the same amplification of the correction. Or, if it fits a political agenda, it's over-amplified to discredit science in general.

I think we've still got a potential for a huge wildfire of infections, with too many hotspots. and a high pressure system building (red states, too fast relaxing of lockdowns back to normality, and general non-compliance with whatever the locals rules are), and a high wind warning (resumption of travel, lack of social distancing). Our air tankers aren't ready (no vaccine, no good treatments yet), our firefighters aren't on the ground (no contact tracing), and our backfires and fire lines are weak (non-compliance). (As a Californian, I love my wildfire analogies). A lot of people ignore risks and fewer understand statistics. I have a sinking feeling that late September and October are going to be very ugly.

So for now and the foreseeable future until this first wave subsides, I'm jerking off, best I can while my dog is scratching at the bedroom door. If this goes on for many more months, my thirst for human physical contact and my little head may take control, and I may get a massage. But it would be with a masseur that I trust; in SF, I'm lucky to know educated masseurs with some experiences in real health education, including an ICU nurse. And if I do get a massage, it will be much more subdued in the sensual nature than I usually am looking for. And then I will be extra careful about my exposure to others for at least one week, so that my risk-choice is solely on me and not foisted upon unsuspecting others.

I totally agree, except that in the US we never really got over the first wave so whatever we are seeing now is not even the second wave yet.

I'd have to set something straight though. Some of the gents here seemed to think that the increase in cases has been due to the increase in testing, but the growing proportion of infected patients requiring admissions to ICUs/requiring ventilators strongly suggests that it's not all due to increased testing but more likely a more widespread of infection in communities, and maybe even an increase in virulence of SARS-CoV-2 now that it has spent some time in the human population perfecting their tools to make their infections more efficient. Most of the media are not pushing any fear-mongering agenda. What I'm seeing at work tells me that the we are so far, far away from being able to return to our pre-pandemic lives.

    Per the CDC website:

"Q: Can people who recover from COVID-19 be infected again?
A: The immune response to COVID-19 is not yet understood. Patients with MERS-CoV infection are unlikely to be re-infected shortly after they recover, but it is not yet known whether similar immune protection will be observed for patients with COVID-19."

    3. Shorting of time.

    6. Too much talking about nonsense.

    7. Too cold room temp.

    8. Late.

    9. Bad breath or smelly body.

    10. Too eager to do a rub and tug and be over with the massage.

    11. Endless rubbing in one spot or monotonous massage.

    12. While face down suddenly sticking his cock in ear, hair, or on my face in the hopes I will turn to suck him—all with no prodding.

Unprofessional masseurs with NO massage talent, who think they can charge outrageous hourly fees based solely on their hot looks. They open the door, strike a pose, put you on the massage table set up in the living room, show NO massage skills at all, and feel charging $180/hr for a quick rub and tug is justified since they are so hot. They do a lame 40 minute hour and rush you out the door afterwards, thinking it is all okay since they are so good looking.

The pics are great....the reviews SEEM to be very compelling. He was, indeed, very quick with his responses. I asked for access to other pics on rentmasseur. He sent face pics that showed his upper body; his shoulders weren't those of the person on the website. (RED FLAG #1).

I showed up on time. He wanted payment upfront, which I've never done before EVER with a masseur. (RED FLAG #2).

Finally, he says that he's registered and trained, but does the massage on the bed. He also remains clothed (sleep pants and underwear) and doesn't allow touching. It was also a horrible rub with bad lotion that lasted ~45min. It was just awful. DO NOT VISIT THIS PERSON!!!
