Tried to submit a review on Rent Masseur, but it was rejected because I hadn't been in touch with him via the website.  Nonetheless sent a message asking that all of the IP addresses of his many reviews be checked....many recent reviews all came on the same day.  Will see what happens.  Again, hope that no one else suffers the same fate.

Rent Masseur is going to investigate the numerous reviews.  Hope that that comes to something.

A well respected, well known professional with an excellent reputation to keep and protect would never burn you but I would advise against pre paying a newbie. I know people that aren't looking very hard for new clients and that want to completely eliminate the possibility of a last minute cancellation and flake who  can justify and get away with asking for deposits.

*this is and always has been a touchy subject and for good cause. Unfortunately, because flakes and scammers are common place theres a good argument for both sides 😕 It really boils down to how much  someone wants to meet someone and how much does said provider need the business...

Completely agree that there are scammers on both sides of the equation....providers and clients.  Having gotten burned yesterday, I will NEVER do it again.

See this thread on deposits that began yesterday:

As a rule of thumb, I never pay a deposit on in or outcalls and I am a firm believer that no one should pay a deposit for a massage.

It was a moment of weakness and I got sucked in by the numerous reviews that he APPEARED to have.  I thought that gave me some comfort that he was real, but have found out that this is not the case.  My loss....LITERALLY.

Saw him several times several years ago when he was starting out and lived in Atlanta. .  Not bad massage, and after a few visits more was offered.

He lived in Seattle I think for several years and apparently is now back in Atlanta.  He now has both a RentMasseur and RentMen ad.

I  contacted him for an appointment during a visit to Atlanta right before he apparently decided to move back,  and everything was set.  The day of, when he sent the address, he stated that he required payment before the session.  This was something he had not peviously done in our meetings, and a deal breaker for me,  so I cancelled.  I got a few nasty replies and name calling before he blocked me.  FIne with me.    I assumed he didn't remember I was among his first clients.

VERY smart to cancel.  Had a VERY bad experience with this person today.  He's a con artist.

  6. BUYER BEWARE!!!  Saw this person's ad today while in Chicago.  Contacted him via text.  He required pre-payment, which I did against my better judgement.  Showed up at his home at the agreed to time.  Let him know that I was in the lobby.  No response.  After 20min, I left.  No contact from all all day.  Called the hotel; no one is registered there under that name.  Attempted to get $$$ back to no avail, of course.  Again, BUYER, BEWARE.  Goes by 'Jorge Diaz'.

I had this occur recently, although with a local masseur, not a traveling one.

I arrived at his studio (in an office building) at the agreed time and his door was locked.  I texted repeatedly with no response.  I called and left him a voice message; waited 15 minutes and left.  An hour later, he texted me back saying he had obviously just massaged someone who was not me!  He offered that we reschedule two days later and he Zelled me $40 for my inconvenience--AND he offered me my first massage free of charge, 90 minutes.  It was so good and I was so impressed with his response that I have been back twice and am about to book again.  A very fine person and excellent masseur.

Scott, thanks for relating this story.  I think that this is the appropriate response.  Glad that it worked out for you.

In the 4am message should have been an apology and offer to reschedule with a discount. Time is money (he should know more than anyone) and he's wasted yours. The onus is completely on him and the recompense should be complete as well. The decision to accept is entirely yours. Anything you're unhappy with, post here for the "paper trail." 🙂

Guy, I agree with your assessment.  No such thing was offered with the 4AM message.  As stated, he was a traveller so I am pretty sure that he's out of my area now.  So, I wasted an hour of time and probably a gallon of gasoline.

You did not say if he contacted you. Also how late was it when you scheduled? Unless I missed something, you have no responsibility to contact him. If he did not contact you in a reasonable time after, I drop him. I seldom have issues with masseurs bc I use the same 1-2 always.

The appointment was originally at 10pm.  He contacted me at 8pm to ask to push it back to 10:30.  I showed up 10:32 and sent a text message.  I waited 15min and, hearing nothing, drove home.  He messaged me 4am saying that he'd fallen asleep.  I messaged back that I'd assumed that that is what happened.  No other communication after that.

  10. So, would be interested in comments from all of you.  This has happened twice now and would appreciate your thoughts.

    First off, my givens:

         1.  Massage is a physically demanding job and makes masseurs tired.

         2.  Travelling masseurs may also have jet lag to deal with travelling across time zones.

         3.  Travelling masseurs to my city (Boston) are often very busy due to the inadequate number of masseurs for a city of this  size.

With that as background, I made an appointment with a masseur for later in the evening.  Drove to the location.  Messaged him that I had parked.  No response.  Waited 15min and then drove home, assuming that he had fallen asleep.  Indeed, that is what happened.

What should happen next?  Immediate re-schedule with discount?  Immediate re-schedule with free massage?  Nothing at all--so sad/too bad?  Other options?

  11. Which spas and saunas do you all recommend in the LA area? I’m a huge fan of Korean spas and Wi Spa is my personal favorite. Looking forward to going back once it reopens!

Used to love Century Spa. Many happy hours spent there.....loved the outdoor patio which was perfect for cooling off.....esp nice on a comfortable LA night.....
