  1. A census worker rang my doorbell today. He wanted to know about my next door neighbor. I've only lived here a year, and I couldn't help him. They're home much of the time, but not when he comes by.

  2. Watching my favorite team today, it was refreshing for the crowd to not heavily favor the road team for a change. However, most of the cardboard cut out crowd wasn't wearing team garb, and there were two cardboard cutouts of dogs in the front row. Being a Padres fan is a lifelong bitch - for real.

I'm watching tonight. The dogs must have season tickets - they're still in the front row. I didn't see any opening day games. Usually the stadium is decorated with bunting for Opening Day. Did any teams have bunting?

  3. I had an operation about 20 years ago. My doctor cut an artery instead of a vein. I woke up in an MRI machine missing five units of blood. I missed over four months of work, and now have a large scar on my abdomen. During that time I traveled to a meeting and struggled just to walk from my hotel room to the front desk. While I was there, I received an emergency (that’s what they called it) call from the doctor’s office. The emergency was that I hadn’t paid the bill. I guess one can’t apologize for fear of a suit. I haven’t seen him since.

  4. Did you guys see this story on TV or read about it?

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/07/11/texas-patient-30-dies-after-attending-covid-party-doctor-says/5422175002/

"A Texas doctor says a 30-year-old patient died after attending a "COVID party," believing the coronavirus pandemic was a hoax.

The patient, who was treated at a San Antonio hospital, is just one of thousands to test positive in the state in recent days. On Saturday, Texas state officials reported a record 10,351 daily new cases.

"We cared for a 30-year-old patient at Methodist Hospital who told their nurse that they had attended a 'COVID party.' ... Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said 'I think I made a mistake. I thought this was a hoax, but it's not,'" said Dr. Jane Appleby in a video statement obtained by USA TODAY. Appleby is the chief medical officer for Methodist Healthcare in San Antonio."

Sounds too crazy to be true, but would the chief medical officer for the hospital lie about something like that? Strange grammar in that sentence, though. "Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse"? Who's they? Or maybe she was just trying to avoid divulging the gender of the patient? To what end?

It was on the TV news yesterday. Yuck.

  5. And the neighborhood where your niece lives is still a lot nicer than mine! It's actually one of the neighborhoods I like to walk in since the area between Dolores Park and the Castro has a lot of steep hills. In addition to all of the problems I listed previously, it's also quite flat where I live. There are some directions I can walk where I will encounter a slight hill after about 10 minutes, but it takes at least a half hour for me to walk to any area with truly steep hills. I had started what was a rant about the decline of San Francisco over the past several years but decided to delete it. Like your niece, I am looking forward to getting out of this place and I absolutely loved living in San Francisco when I first moved here 35 years ago and didn't begin to truly hate it until the past five or so years.

I wish I could walk up hill. I was in San Francisco last year and walked downhill eight blocks to Market street ever day but couldn't make it back to my hotel without an Uber.

  6. Yay! I got my first haircut since February last Monday. I was the only one in the shop. And a dentist appointment Friday. My 80 year old periodontist took the opportunity to retire so I get a new one next month. The one who does my teeth decided not to move to the new periodontist. She lives 50 miles away and found a job in her home town.

  7. My mom didn't use Ketchup. She used 1 can tomato sauce, 2 tbsp. ground onion (actually 1/2 onion) 1/4 teaspoon each thyme, nutmeg, celery seed, allspice, and chili pepper - boil and pour over meatloaf. Her recipe also included 1/4 teaspoon mace, but she never had any. I think this was grandma's recipe. Maybe I should make meatloaf sometime. My sister does, in the microwave nowadays.
