  1. My biggest fear is this heatwave and The Cat. He has a sitter but not in residence
  2. Definitely agree on the plane size. I did ATL-HNL on an international Delta A330 in First (OR Delta ONe, as they call it) ... three and a half movies, two meals, and an hour nap. Part of my anxiety is that I'm seeing a medical school classmate and her husband. He has stage 4 duodenal cancer, and probably won't make it through the year. I haven't seen them since 2002, when his father died.
  3. I'm going to Oklahoma City for the 4th of July, and I'm anxious as hell about it. Anyone else getting acute anxiety when they travel?
  4. According to just jared ... http://cdn01.cdn.justjared.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/hooper-mh/tom-hooper-mens-health-shirtless-01.jpg
  5. I learned basic chemistry. I learned PSSC Physics (it was a course in the '60's) that didn't use calculus, but used changes a lot. THen I re-took the physics, learning the calculus as it was needed. And we went into stoichiometrics and reaction rates in chemistry. And got taught the calculus as we went along. This was in High School, about which a ten-episode documentary is going to be shown in April on STARZ, America to Me. Dear Old Oak Park. In college, I used calculus for four years. It's a very useful adjunct to arithmetic and algebra. DEFINITELY useful in medicine.
  6. Rationalizing the denominator makes it look prettier.
  7. I'm pretty sure they no longer offer tours INSIDE Hoover dam. I was there July 2001, and there was this little incident a couple of months later ... it's a pity. It was absolutely INCREDIBLE.
  8. And me with 30 years of career as an anesthesiologist.
  9. I had a roommate for five years. She's now a trans-woman and moved to Wisconsin to be with her lover, another trans-woman. I would really feel better having someone else around the house. I'm thinking of getting the basement in shape (it used to be finished ... therein lies a tale!) and having a Medical Student come live here. They're bright and almost always preoccupied. And the State med school has gone from $600 a year (1975) to $34.600 ($59,400 for out of state) with total fees/room/board/transportation at $65,000 per year. So they could use a break, and I might have someone interesting around. And a built-in cat sitter.
  10. Definitely high tea: https://www.teatimemagazine.com/high-tea-vs-afternoon-tea/
  11. I have psoriasis. In order to see if a biologic would work (Humira), I was put on prednisone. WOrked like a charm. It also gave me a case of avascular necrosis, which infected my hip, which spontaneously fractured. After surgery, I had a pulmonary embolism to 60% of my lungs and should have killed me. No steroids for me.
  12. My first High Tea was at Fortnum and Mason's in London. Menu: Welsh Rarebit Scone with clotted cream Napoleon I'm amazed I survived that meal.
  13. I did just like to point out two things: The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything is 42. We don't know the question. “There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. "There is another theory which states that this has already happened.” - Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
  14. Celebration cake, May 1979 Bon Appetit. A pound of nuts; three sticks of butter; eight eggs; sugar. Four layers of nut merigue interspersed with chocolate, vanilla, and praline butter cream. 750 calories/slice (calculated).
  15. Funny. Until I open my mouth, whilst in the UK, I'm always taken as a native.
  16. In Bate's Motel, he was rather taciturn. The few times he smiled, I melted.
  17. I, for one, will most likely be gone before we hit bottom and go !?splat!?
  18. Grinder, hot dog, soda (used to be pop)
  19. Inzane is a performer on chaosmen.com, where he's versatile and quite the hunk. Don't know how he'd be with a newbie. https://rentmen.eu/Inzane
  20. Great movie!
  21. This was in 2012. I was always kind an courteous to the sandwich lady. Last time I went, I got a full ice-cream scoop of tuna salad on my "half" sandwich.
