By Christmas 1968, Bob Hope was no longer popular in his Vietnam tours. He, Martha Raye and George Jessel were hawks on the war, while most of the enlisted men (like me) were draftees. Older men and woman likely knew his real name was Leslie. I knew myself shortly after. Jessel was far,far worse, at least Bob Hope was quite friendly. Jessel sang Al Jolson songs to a mostly black audience. Songs were "Swanee" and ""Rockabye Your Baby to a Dixie Melody." Over 50 years later, I am still shocked

My first Broadway show was in 1959, a play with Barbara Bel Geddes and Henry Fonda. I had absolutely no complaints about current Broadway or off Broadway adiences. The last two shows I saw were Little Shop of Horrors and The Great Society.
