I am also an advocate of taking chances, especially for those younger than 40. Thinking constantly about saving money before my 40th birthday would have bored me to distraction.

If I had not budgeted for traveling to Australia (3 times), Europe, Japan in the 15 years before retiring, I probably would not have gone to Russia and Bosnia after retiring.

I am not surprised. After a while, the public facade fell apart partly because of too many TV appearances for too many years. By the Hope died at age 100 he was a mere remembrance of old fashioned show business. The public may have known Lucille Ball was hurt when her last sit com failed. With Hope, we knew nothing about him. -
