Ditto to everyone warning against the OP's idea, but specially ditto to @TruHart1 . My close friends would know who to gift me as a surprise and make me happy. However, if they really want to give me the best gift of my life, they should gift me those same guys without the surprise. Anticipation would add immensely to the joy, I would enjoy the meeting so much more if I have been expecting it! I would say that a surprise is always a waste in these cases. If it is not a waste in absolute terms, it is a relative waste, like it would be in my examples above.
