If you've ever had an airline lose your luggage, you would understand. It need only happen once, and you would be cured from ever checking baggage again. The airline has lost my luggage, and never found it, and once on a cruise out of Naples, Lufthansa lost my luggage, and it took them 3 days to get it to me. They didn't want to send it forward to the ship, but wanted to send it back to LA, and surprisingly the cruise line was very uncooperative also. It was ridiculous. It took threats of a litigation before the Celebrity and Lufthansa finally agreed to work together and have my luggage meet the ship. That last little fiasco pretty much cured me of ever letting my luggage out of my control when traveling.
