Many of the newsstands along the IND lines of the New York subway were bathrooms 50 years ago. They stank and evil things happened there. I've always admired the immense courage of that young man and hope he got the resources to recover from that incident.

Agreed but the best managed airlines have well run hedging operations that buy (or perhaps sell) fuel at a fixed price for future delivery. Of course that doesn't keep them for using higher fuel costs as the reason for hiking fares.
