Thanks, now I get it. I was truly baffled by how the Venetian landmark tied in with a working-class Dubliner. The movie has mixed reviews on imdb, but in the trailer, the lead looks like a heck of an actor, as @orville points out. Might be worth watching for his performance alone.

Wow, I would think it'd be difficult to stow away a domestic housecat onto a cruise ship. How on earth did he sneak in a cheetah?? I believe Siegfried & Roy's show was the first $100 ticket in Las Vegas. It was a breathtaking sum in a city where shows were once all comped or at most charged a nominal sum, just to keep the gamblers happy. Las Vegas recently lost three giants who each in their own way transformed the city: Sheldon Adelson, the convention king (he started Comdex, once the world's biggest trade show) and later casino king; Tony Hsieh, Zappo CEO who transformed Downtown (especially east Fremont); and Siegfried & Roy.

I have entertained the notion that if I won the lottery, I would start up my own strip club (full-monty of course - thongs? pffft). I didn't know that conservatives supposedly dislike the Olympics. I have never heard anyone trashing the Games in any right-wing forums, social media, or my personal GOP circles. You make so many assumptions. Sorry that your parents never taught you what happens when you assume. Partisan politics from 40 years ago are irrelevant today. I couldn't care less that Carter was a Dem. If he were a Republican or a Martian, I'd have the same opinion. I didn't realize that liking, or not, the Olympics was a conservative/liberal issue. I like figure skating in the winter, and gymnastics, springboard diving, pole vault, and track relays in the summer. I don't get how politics plays into one's appreciation of a throw quad salchow or a diver's sexy little Speedo.

I know it happened a long time ago, and I'm sure all the athletes affected picked up their lives & moved forward, but I still feel bad for the US Olympians who had to stay home because of Jimmy Carter's boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. It seemed like such a pointless political gesture, with no impact on Soviet actions in Afghanistan but a devastating impact on the athletes who trained so hard & sacrificed so much. I've heard buzz that the 2021 Games in Japan will be canceled again because of Covid. Is it out of the question to postpone them another year to 2022? Or maybe even host them in October of this year. In 3 more months, so many more people can be vaccinated.

Hmm, always two sides to a story. I read that the officials said that they had to be a stickler with the rules but that if Christian appealed the fine, he would win & the fine would be rescinded. So he's guilty/not guilty at the same time?? In any case, I'm happy for the guy. The last I heard of him, he was a teenager who didn't have the size (5'11" is actually a bit small for a pro player) or power to make it on the ATP Tour. Eight surgeries later, he's back & makes it to the semi of a 250. Good for him for refusing to give up.

Christian Harrison's only previous claim to fame was being the kid brother of journeyman Ryan Harrison. He fell off the map for a long time because of 8 surgeries, but at the ripe old age of 26, he got a wild card into Delray Beach qualifying, won 2 Q matches to get in the main draw, and won 3 matches to get to the semis.
