    I had lost touch with him too after having spent 3 amazing occasions in the past, but i just recontacted him in Chicago. He still does (at least to me he did say so...). He apparently has limited time and I don't know if he takes new clients...

    Was Gavin the guy who at one time had a white partner, and they escorted together?

     

    If so-I thought he had quit escorting for massage. I tried to get together with him once two or three years ago. But he told me he didn't escort anymore.

    I am a little late to this thread but I remember a travel guide stating that if you have three men sitting at dinner where one is Portuguese, one is Spanish, and one is Italian. Then the Portuguese could understand both the Italian and the Spaniard when they spoke, the Italian would only understand the Spaniard when he spoke. The Spaniard would understand only Spanish.

     

     

    Being Italian my first language, Spanish my second (totally fluent) and understanding some Portuguese I can tell you that definitely the Portuguese would understand almost everything of Spanish and some Italian. The Spaniard would understand definitely more Italian than Portuguese, the Italian would understand most Spanish (not from Spain, but yes from Latin America apart from Central America's Islands!) but very little Portuguese.

    Italians who arrived to US between the end of XIX century until the 1970s 95% of the times came from rural areas of the South and the north eastern part of Italy and had none or very little education. They usually spoke only Italian dialects which sometimes are totally different form formal Italian, for example someone who speaks only Milanese can never have a conversation with someone who speaks only Sicilian.

    The ones who arrived last and who are still alive learned to speak a mixture between dialect and broken English which is basically now a language by its own.

    My mother-in-law was born in Sicily in the 30s, she arrived here in the early 70s, and when I met her I discovered a new language!

    Italian/Americans who are convinced to speak "Italian" have their own vocabulary which somehow has become (especially with Italian words for some eatable stuff..) part of the American lingo.

    I have always wondered if a native Spanish speaker would be able to understand Italian. What about Portuguese?

     

    Being a native Italian speaker and now speaking fluent Spanish for 10 years of my life spent in Mexico City, and having to deal often now with Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese speaking tourists put together, I can tell you that it's definitely easier for an Italian who never studied Spanish to understand and mumbling something in Spanish than the opposite.

    Italian Grammar is far more complicated than Spanish.

    Portuguese and Brazilians understand almost all of Spanish, Spanish understand some Portuguese, Italians understand VERY little Portuguese.

    French understand only little of the other 3 Romance languages and viceversa.

    Born and raised in Italy, Italian remains my first language and I do count always in Italian ;)

     

    Lived in Mexico for 10 years, never studied the language, but it was quite easy to pick it up and I am now totally fluent in Spanish.

    Lived in NY for 15 and I am definitely fluent in English. Still, Spanish is a bit better than my English...

    I can have a basic conversation in French, which I never studied.

     

    Native Italians in general are NOT very easy to pick up other languages (even if a foreign language is taught at school),

    but I guess I have a "musical" ear...:)
