She was not very helpful nor friendly. As long as I can make my own medical and financial decisions they won't help me.

She advised me to contact Adult Protective Services and gave me their phone number. I don't know what they can do for me but I'll call them tomorrow.

There was time still today so I called APS. The receptionist explained the IHSS (In Home Supportive Services) program but my income is too great. She transferred me to a Social Worker. She mentioned Assisted Living and said that she'd talk to a colleague and call me back tomorrow.

Avalon, your income may be too high but you may be able to "spend down" to qualify. You really need to speak to an elder care attorney who can advise you of possibilities. Usually the first consultation is free and they're often pretty helpful even if you don't wind up using their services.

Thank-you. As I said the APS worker is supposed to call me back tomorrow and I'll discuss that and other things with her.
