After doing a little research, I'm completely confused. I see people selling or trying to by them on ebay or craigslist, then I read threatening policy statements on airline web sites, then I see articles on other sites talking about a gray area.

Anyone have direct experience of knowledge in this area?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Catnip it just is not worth the risk to sell your miles via ebay.

Your account can be siezed, closed and all miles contained within confiscated/erased.

This is not fair, and it might just be illegal, but the airlines do make examples of dozens of folks caught doing this each year.

Now as far as trading miles with others-that may be a way to go.You have 15,000 "orphan"miles on delta and your friend is short 15,000 delta miles for an award but has tons of United miles. If you bothe agree to pay the transfer fees than that can be a great way to bump up your milage account.I have done this myself a few times.

If you go over to one of my favorite sites-flyertalk.com you can find a wealth of frequent flyer info. With the help of the advice I recieved there I will be traveling first class LAX/ORD/EZE/GIG/LAX next year-a $10,000 air ticket.

And never(if you can help it at all)waste your miles on domestic coach tickets!Save those mile for your long haul international trips so you can fly upfront.
