For everyone interested in modern architecture, The Turning Torso in Malmö, Sweden is the latest Santiago Calatrava's project.

"HSB Turning Torso represents a human body in a twisting motion. The construction consists of nine cubes with five floors each. Adding to this the intermediate floors the total comes to 54 floors. Each floor has ca 400m² of available space. This gives 147 apartments from cube three to nine.

In principle, each floor consists of a square part around the core and a triangular part which is supported by an external steel structure. The entire construction twists 90 degrees on its way up."

Steven,

Thanks for the post. Glad to see new designs that are an alternative to the "Post Modern" look which IMHO aren't new at all. The website is great for anyone interested in architecture, even though it did give me a bit of vertigo looking at the aerial views. The site also gives a better idea of how the engineering was done. Would love to have a condo there but am sure it is out of my price range.

Very Cool...thanks for the link. Sadly it seems dramatic High-rise buildings are not built in the USA anymore, especially after Sept 11.
