Here’s some input for these items:

The new office is just south of the McCarren Airport. Any suggestions on where to look?

A high priority to consider is traffic flow to get to and from work. Pull up Google Earth to follow this. I would say you should look South of the 215 Beltway Loop. Most of those developments are fairly new and would likely simplify your commute.

I would lease something in Las Vegas. Probably a 2 bedroom apartment. Not buy.

I have an acquaintance with a 2br, 2bath in a gated complex near the 215 loop and Rainbow. New modern complex. Rent is about $1200 plus utilities. This area would work for you but you might be even better off with your commute if you looked east of I-15 and south of the 215.

It appears the NFL Raiders will be moving to Las Vegas. If you look at Google Earth - due west of the airport there is a open field area that touches the west side of I-15. Near Mandalay Bay Casino. That is the likely new stadium location. What that means is construction - including road construction. Something to avoid. The timeline calls for the stadium to open 2020. But this offers an opportunity for you. There will be an increased demand for construction and post-construction stadium workers in the very area I suggest you focus on. Home prices will likely reflect increased demand. I agree with leasing to begin with - but if the right deal comes up buying shouldn’t be dismissed.

I might be able to give some additional suggestions if you share some of the things you like to do during your off-time.

P.S. I love Cirque du Soleil shows!

Thank you not2rowdy. Appreciate the info on the areas that might work for me. Especially helpful is your insight on the rents that I might encounter. Good tips all around. Many thanks!

Some other considerations.

If your preference leans towards high rise apartments there are several newer ones along Las Vegas Blvd south of the airport between Windmill and Silverado. Take into consideration the airport runway landing and takeoff patterns.

You should, at a minimum, look for something with assigned covered parking or, even better, your own garage. The summer sun will be brutal on your car if it’s not protected from direct sunlight.

Check the RTC bus routes and schedules to see if they might work for you.

If you end up in the area south of the 215 give preference to an apartment with a view to the North. That will also help keep your air conditioning utility costs down. Ideally you would have a shade tree on west windows too.

Las Vegas has lots of high rise time share condos - or an off strip casino hotel might be relatively inexpensive to stay at during your housing search. Get their Players Card to take advantage of discounts.

- Silverton Casino Hotel and Bass Pro Outdoor Shops at I-15 and Blue Diamond

- South Point Casino & Hotel at Las Vegas Blvd and Silverado Ranch Blvd

- Green Valley Ranch Resort on the 215 Loop at Green Valley Pkwy

Very large, albeit tourist oriented, shopping / dining areas at South Outlet Mall (Las Vegas Blvd & Warm Springs), Town Square (Las Vegas Blvd & Sunset Rd).

Take a look at www.trulia.com for Las Vegas to get some rental cost ideas.
