I suppose it's fair to say that for most theater goers worldwide production plays tend to be associated with the West End, Broaday, Chicago and Los Angeles. Pretty much the usual suspects. At times, one can find a really good production away from the glitz and glamour and find more comfort in smaller cities regardless of country.

To those readers who reside in other countries other than the United States Of America. There is a town in the state of California which is located west coast called Palm Springs. This particular city is not well known to have great production plays, except for maybe the Follies. This production has a wonderful take on life during the time frame of World War II. I'm sure there are lots of people who have traveled thru Palm Springs. My question is has anyone ever had the chance to see the Follies on stage in Palm Springs. If so, what are your thoughts or opinions of what you saw. Please feel free to express and say what you like.

I have seen every Follies production except for the first one. I have always found great entertainment. Yes, some parts may be hokey, but the costumes rival anything that you would find in Las Vegas, the women are truly beautiful (although most of them have had much surgery to enhance their appearance) and talented. The Follies is a polished, professional show, and from the busloads of people who arrive on show days, it provides much entertainment and enjoyment. Palm Springs is very fortunate to have this show each year. Where else can you see an 80+ year old woman doing the splits on stage? LOL.

The show is indeed played for those 80 and older. The costumes are great and it is a very colorful production.

It actually gets more colorful as I barf during numerous segments which are too hokey for words. The MC, who also owns and produces the show, is one of the most obnoxious stage presences ever. His jokes are mean spirited and just plain mean. Even my mother wanted to yell at him. Unfortunately, he gets a lot of stage time.

But if you have ever wondered what happenn to those chorus boys and girls when they get shoved off stage by younger performers, you will find some of them at The Palm Springs Follies. The amount of makeup needed alone would use up half the revenue of the tickets, but you gotta give them credit for sticking with something they love. At the end, every schmaltzy technique ever devised is brought off to give the show a patriotic finale!

Definitely a ONCE in a lifetime experience.
