A good B-50 complex supplement taken 1-2 times/day also seems to help prevent canker sores. Guess that's why the B vitamins are sometimes known as the anti-stress vitamins. Stress does seems to play a large role in developing cankers. Accidently biting one's lip or cheek while eating can set the stage for development of a canker. Remember that cankers are caused by a virus that is always present once you have it, but has retreated into the nerves.

 

Second, I believe that the topical medication (to which a previous poster referred) which he used for cankers and is also used for shingles is acyclovir. Acyclovir is used for oral herpes or cold sores. So it's no surprise that it helps with cankers.
