[a href=http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/filmography.html?p_id=18244&inline=nyt-per]Sandra Dee[/a], the actress who became an icon for a generation playing roles in such films as [a href=http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/movie.html?v_id=19727&inline=nyt_ttl]"Gidget"[/a] and [a href=http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/titlelist.html?v_idlist=24403;96320&inline=nyt_ttl]"Imitation of Life,"[/a] died today at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, Calif. She was 63.

 

Ms. Dee was married to the singer [a href=http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/filmography.html?p_id=17011&inline=nyt-per]Bobby Darin,[/a] who himself died young in 1973 at the age of 37.

 

Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin both dead: it's almost enough to make me feel old.

My favorite Sandra Dee costar was Troy Donahue in "A Summer Place". He was really handsome at that time.
