Why is it such a big event when people stop hiring?

Can someone suggest why one would choose to make a big deal out of their decision to stop hiring? It's not as if you can't simply stop hiring until you decide at some point to hire again.

Why, the air of finality?

Is hiring sex partners considered to be an unhealthful habit, say, like smoking?

Do people feel they are leaving a life of crime?

I mean, how often do you hear people say "Well, it's been fun, and I've learned a great deal about myself, but I feel it's time to leave the world of vanilla ice cream behind me forever, and move on with my life."

...Hoover

I never understood that either. If it is an addiction and you have gotten over it, then good for you but if it is not then why bother? To me it seems like people need to inflame some drama by doing it.

I agree that it's kind of strange to make such an announcement. I can understand an escort announcing he is retiring when he is over it and wants his clients to know. But for a client to announcent it is odd. Never say never. I mean why can't it be like just going on a diet from over eating or over indulging and spending too much for while. Maybe just back off and not over indulge in too many "desserts" for a while and then go back when the "temptation" is too much...or a new "dessert" you never had before comes along and you want to splurge and have a taste ;-)

Can you imagine announcing: Well, I love Pizza, but I have eaten it for years and it's been fun and tasted good, but now it's time to not eat Pizza ever again!

Maybe it is because the thing most of us have in common and why we are members of the Hoo Club is because we hire Escorts. So when someone's status in the Club changes they think it may be of interest.

Especially if there is a reason, like Cougar's. I found Cougar's retirement announcement and his reasoning behind his decision of interest. No, I don't think it is like giving up pizza if some situation has had a bearing upon the person making a decision to quit hiring.

I don't speak FOR Uncle Bill but I saw this topic and IMMEDIATELY thought of him. I'm sure he'll add his own response later.

I think the "hobby" as it were of hiring is something some guys find very precious and a serious part of their life. Quitting hiring is like quitting golf for the avid player or like a professional athlete retiring from the sport.

You're in essence giving up a part of your life because it's "beyond" you now and you won't be involved in it anymore no matter how much you observe. A guy that stops hiring can look back on the escorts he's hired in the past and discuss them but he isn't likely to be able to contribute to chats about new talent.

Anyway, I know that when Bill told me he wasn't hiring anymore, I could tell it was a big thing for him. I wouldn't compare it to quitting smoking as thats quitting something thats bad for you because it's bad. I'd compare it most to when someone retires from a job they loved. They're closing a chapter in their life they'll look back on fondly :)

Totally agree with Various Reasons, Reasoning that KY and SA have stated. To take the time to gather an interest for what is said on this site, It is also nice to take the time to say your Hiring Interest is over, if you so choose to.. IMHO..The reasons "Why' are definitely more interesting ,than the "Why did you boither to say" comments... :+ :+ :+

Just read Cougar's post and I dont know him, but it didnt seem egotistical to me.

>Can someone suggest why one would choose to make a big deal out of their decision to stop hiring?<

Endings and beginnings seem to be a big deal in our culture. Bar/Bat miitzvahs and Confirmation prove, at least, that religions themselves blend with society as recognizing the youth's asent in to adulthood. However, I always found sweet 16s fucken stupid and arbitrary, but that's my thing.

I think this has become a big deal to cougar cause it is the end of a period in which he was looking for something. What he was looking for could have been anything from fun to companionship, but that is up to him to decide. Either way, he has come to a realization and is moving to another place. Sure, he should talk about it...we talk about everything else. This board can be very cathartic...

I dont particularly believe that birthdays are such a big deal, but we like to get together and celebrate...why can we not mentally and emotionally "get together" over this ? Shit, we all pass out the congratulations when someone hits a certain amounts of posts !!

>It's not as if you can't simply stop hiring until you decide at some point to hire again.<

True, but escorts drop in and out of retirement...why cant we ?

>Why, the air of finality?<

Im not sure. Maybe cause its final to cougar.

>Is hiring sex partners considered to be an unhealthful habit, say, like smoking?<

:-) :-) For some it is very unhealthy, and is a vice...for others it is not...we each have different predispositions for pleasure, pain, virtue and vice

>>Do people feel they are leaving a life of crime?<<

Technically, it is a crime :-)

Scott, you can always speak for me -- and too me ;-)

I'll just say that, in my case, hiring became (and still is) an obsession, and I have tried to make it tougher on myself in a number of ways to hire again. Telling the people on this board -- and specifically the escorts and clients who I've had on-going relationships with -- helps me stay the course. I guess you might think of it as a form of self-therapy and a search for support (without going to meetings and having to follow some 12-step process). I'm not looking to criticize others or get them to follow me -- I'm just trying to work things out for myself. Doesn't mean that I won't stray from my decision from time to time or express my strong feelings for the many wonderful guys I've met through this experience (Scott being among the top on my list).

Also, it seems to me that many on this board are interested in the people they "meet" here, escorts and clients -- it's not always just about who's the hot new fuck in town -- although that part's always good too ;-)

GET OUT OF MY HEAD. I was about to yell at you for not crediting me with the 12 Step joke because I know I was thinking that when I wrote my post but I guess I never included it.

I was probably too pre-occupied with the attrocities of 101 Rentboys (see other post) but I digress...

It's always a pleasure to be someone's exception or diabetic donut as it were :)

I like my newly instituted "once a month" rule. First, I really cant justify/afford more than that. Secondly, it is kind of fun looking at a guy and saying, "Is he the hottest guy I will see all month" along with "Is this gonna be the guy that can treat me the best this month...at least for an hour ?"

When I was hiring like a fiend (unexpected windfall helped me out), I felt guilty like I should be using my money for something else. I would think like Oscar Schindler in Schindler's list..."How many more lives could I have saved if I only sold this gold ring" With the once a month rule, I find its like Im giving myself something very cool, once a month, and not overindulging. I truly feel better giving a few dollars to the homeless than I do tipping dancers. I know that the homeless guy needs it more and I dont care if he spends it on alcohol

I've decided to announce that I've been hiring for some time now, and I plan to continue to hire for awhile. EWC
