Va. Bill Sets Fine for Low-Riding Pants

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.

 

The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a "lewd or indecent manner."

 

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.

 

During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.

 

"This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many," Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.

 

The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.

 

Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black.

It passed in the state House but was defeated in the state Senate.

Good example of people with more time than brains. I could never understand why some peope think they have to make others conform to their idea of proper dress, haircuts, body art etc. Doesn't mean I like it all or would ever had done it myself, but thankfully, that's not the test.

I personally hate the look, but when did our society decide that giving away all rights was a good idea. People are far too willing to sacrifice other's freedoms. Before you realize it, yours are gone as well.

 

 

P.S. Hotties don't wear their pants like that ... This look is exclusive to black wanna be gangsters (and real gangsters as well), and suburban white boys that look to shock their parents

I beg to differ - are you saying that "suburban white boys that look to shock their parents" can't be hotties as well. I got new for you, THEY CAN and OFTEN ARE.

 

I don't know where you live, but you should take a trip to Vancouver. The underwear eyecandy can be extraordinary!
