Kind of a last minute post, my apologies but SWOP-Chicago and Lifeworks Psychotherapy are putting together a sex worked support group :

Tuesday, October 4th 6-7:30 PM

Lifeworks Psychotherapy Center

8707 Skokie Blvd. Suite 310

Skokie IL

We are pleased to be launching this new resource in conjunction with Lifeworks, a psychotherapy group with many years of experience in facilitating support groups!

October's Topic: Getting to Know Ourselves

As a way to begin this group, we will be introducing ourselves and exploring what support is wanted and possible. We will also address issues of safety and confidentiality.

We are excited to announce the start of this support group for individuals who identify as sex workers. People in the sex trade often experience stigma, shame, isolation, and struggle to manage personal relationships. They may have conflicts within the industry, and difficulty with depression and/or anxiety. Support groups are a way to build community, share experiences and gain emotional support form others.

This group is open to anyone who has previously or is currently working in the sex trade. (For the safety and protection of participants, this group is not open to consumers of sex industry services.) The group will be facilitated by Rami Henrich, LCSW and Cindy Trawinski, Psy.D.

For more info, contact [email protected] or

call 847-568-1100.

I understand the need for the safety and the confidentiality of the participants. My suggestion the following - don't post address, date and time of the meeting on a forum like THIS, or on any public forum.

I hope this initiative goes well and that it offers some real support to actors in the sex trade. 'Sex trade'. What an awful word.

BaronArtz: we use sex trade as an inclusive word to people who may not identify as sex workers. People trade sex for a variety of different reasons and the event has licensed social workers and therapists to deter any people who may be there for the wrong reasons.

Kipp: This is not a masters project. This is borne out of a need in the community.

I'm surprised there aren't more comments here. This is an important post.

I agree. As a client, I would like to know more about what the struggles facing sex workers are. Understanding it would make me a better and more sensitive client, hopefully. Please do share the research.
