Lady Chablis was 59 and the words I would use to describe her character would be irreverent, sassy, and unexplainably charming. I understand she used to perform about once a month at Club One in Savannah, where I saw her once and laughed my ass off. RIP

When the book came out, I went to see her in Savannah. I'm not a big fan of drag queens but she was amazing. Much fun. I think the film version (though much criticized for replacing the gay narrator with a straight one) is underrated. She's terrific playing herself and "hiding my candy" entered the pantheon with that one! RIP.

And she was only 59. Am I the only one that thought she was in her 70's or 80's?

A Lady Never Discusses her real age. I had family in Savannah at the time of the murder and the movie and she was

well known and well loved far beyond the LGBT community -- even participating in such endeavors as the Fellowship of Christians and Jews among many other charities and community organizations.

Her adventures and ventures as reported to me - always reminded me of the old Bessie Smith song.
