Fairfax VA Mayor arrested on drugs for gay sex undercover police sting.

 

The mayor of Fairfax, Virginia, has resigned following his arrest last week for allegedly trying to exchange methamphetamine to undercover detectives in exchange for sex, city officials said Monday.

 

Mayor Richard "Scott" Silverthorne's resignation will take effect on Thursday, according to a statement on the City of Fairfax website.

 

Silverthorne, 50, was arrested and charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after a sting operation that had been underway since July led an undercover detective to the mayor, who provided detectives with methamphetamine.

 

The detectives had contacted Silverthorne through a website, where he promised them a "group sexual encounter" with men in exchange for the drugs, according to the Fairfax City Police Department.

The police were tipped off about his behavior. They set up the sting by creating a profile on a gay hookup app then lured him into the sting.

This guy was openly gay and somewhat well known. He was a career politician but also something of a loser type. Having a profile on a gay hookup site offering PNP is not a smart thing to have for a public official.

His mind must have been overtaken by the drugs. Being the highest profile public official in a small town (24,000) to try something like this in your home town is outside logic or reason.

Fairfax is in the middle of Fairfax County, pop 1.3 million, right outside Washinfton DC. It's not really a small town.

Noted, but he is/was mayor of only The city of Fairfax (total area 6.3 square miles).

 

According to the City of Fairfax, VA Demographics and Statistical Profile (2012) U.S. Census Bureau (2010-2014) the median household income was $100,584. An enviable income, but unless that has changed in the past year, not "very huge."

He didn't hire someone because he lost his job and is a substitute teacher. What I find interesting is that if he were a Republican that would be the lead.

He's a Democrat ( a very dumb one at that).

There are a lot of exorbitantly paid bureaucrats and executives here as well. The revolving door between government and the private sector spins continuously. The Beltway Bandits make a lot of money at the expense of taxpayers. Hence this area is a bubble, protected from the economic realities faced by most of the country.
