I saw this last night at the Mint's new venue, the Beckett on west 42nd St. It was written in 1953, and ran a year in London, with Sir John Gielgud and Dame Sybil Thorndyke in the leads. It came to New York in 1955, with the Cronyns in the leads and also with Aline MacMahon and Dennis King. It ran only 24 performances. Based on the excellent production last night, it deserved better.

It's a much better play than some of the fusty British revivals the Mint does. It features the usual Mint fine acting, but it's an excellent play, and not at all dated.

It opens in a week or two, and is well worth your attention!!
