Some people should just stay away from the great outdoors

Father-and-son tourists were ticketed and forced to release a baby bison they'd wrangled into the back of their SUV at Yellowstone National Park because they thought it was cold.

A harbor seal pup was recently euthanized by wildlife officials in Washington state after it was carried off a beach by a woman who mistakenly thought the seal had been abandoned, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration West Coast Marine Mammal Stranding Network.

The incident happened this May when a woman saw the seal pup on a beach near Westport, Washington, and carried it away in a recyclable shopping tote, NOAA public affairs officer Michael Milstein told ABC News today.

"She then took it home and realized she really didn't know what to do for it or how to take care of it," he said. "She later called the local aquarium, Westport Aquarium, which is part of our network of volunteers."

The aquarium's director, Marc Myrsell, told ABC News today that when he saw the seal on the woman's deck, it was "alive but extremely lethargic."

I had a neighbor once who got all upset because a baby squirrel had fallen out of a tree. It was alive, but didn't look at all well. I talked her out of calling 911 for medical assistance, pointing out that it was a SQUIRREL. Finally, the neighbor said, "It's going to die, isn't it?" I said I was sorry, but yes, it was going to die. I have a great love of animals, but I also have the sense I was born with.

I'm all for compassion and empathy, but christ on a crutch! That person needs some sense knocked into them. Seal pups are frequently left in a safe spot while the adult is away hunting for food. So many stupid people with no awareness of how animals exist in reality. Typical human arrogance.
