Beautiful Short Film - Madrid Pride

I feel a bit weird posting a video in Spanish, but hopefully there are enough board members who speak, or at least understand a bit of Spanish to appreciate this video. And frankly, even if you don't know a word of Spanish, the actor who plays the lead is so damn handsome I'd watch the video even if it were in Russian.

 

 

I thought it was just so well done - the script, the actors, the mood and emotions captured. Everything felt so real and honest. I hear Madrid Pride is an absolute spectacle. Millions come from all over Europe and even the world to celebrate. I'm not one for crowds; huge crowds kind of freak me out. But Madrid Pride sounds like something truly amazing.

The subtitles are useless. The "auto-generated" subtitles in French don't match the dialogue, and when you use the auto-translate function to bring them into English, they make no sense whatsoever. So, I did my best to translate the dialogue. Note: it's not quite a word-for-word translation, closer to how the same dialogue would be expressed in English.

 

Son: "Hi Mom! Hi Dad! I'm already in Madrid.

Look at the room, how awesome. Nice beds, huh? Look, this is a mirror-TV. And with four pipes, they made a closet, or someplace to leave your underwear hanging, all minimalist.

Nothing else, the trip was good. I ate the sandwich on the way in the bus.

OK, I wanted to tell you something. I didn't come to Madrid to see the musical, although I'll end up seeing it.

But I don't know if you know what's being celebrated in Madrid right now. It's Pride ... Gay Pride. And uh ... I came to celebrate it as well.

F*ck, Mom, you have to see this. Here I realized that the people are brave, that they're not afraid, that they live the way the want to live, and that they are who they want to be. And I want to be like them.

And I know you're not stupid, that you can more or less figure out what's going on, but I wanted to tell you myself.

I'm gay. I like guys, always have.

I also wanted to tell you that I'm not alone. [to someone not on screen] Come!

I wanted to introduce you to somebody. This is Mario, my ... my boyfriend."

Mario: "Hi!"

Son: "We met a few months ago, through Instagram. And the last time I came to Madrid, well, I also came to see him. Yeah, I know I came to see the concert of Ruth Lorenzo, but [laughs] I came to be with him. And, uh, he's a very sweet guy, the kid's an architecture major, and I love him a lot."

Mario: "I want you to know, honestly, that have a f*cking amazing son."

Son: "And OK, nothing more, I want you all to meet, and that's about it. We'll see each other Sunday. Kiss!"

Mario: "A kiss, in-laws!" [both laugh]

[Pause]

[While son is staring at the phone ... ] Mario: "Are you gonna send it, or what?"

Son: "Yeah."

[son hits "send"]

Son: "Now nothing will ever be the same."

Mario: "It's going to be better."

Son: "Two blue checks, man. They're watching it."

[The two men hug]

Mario: "I'm very proud of you."

[Piano ... son sinks head into Mario's shoulder ... phone rings ... both stare at phone screen]

Son: "It's my mother."

Mario: [nods] "Pick it up ... pick it up."

Son: "Mom ... "
