I'm not exactly sure what the "lure" of self photography is ?. I know what I look like, and if I forget, I look in the mirror...

But you are seeing the reverse image of yourself in the mirror... Which is one reason that I don't like or do mirror selfies... Of course there are programs that can then reverse the mirror image, but that makes things a bit convoluted.

Amen to that! Imma add that I hate, loath, blah having my pic taken by me or someone else. If cameras broke when pointed at me I wouldn't mind.

I don't care so much about being photographed (with provisos for surreptitious closeup photos by strangers; they should ask permission first), but it's a lot of work to take a decent selfie. That's not for me.

 

But I understand why people do it; it's a way to record and share one's image without the need for a photographer, professional or otherwise. My quibble is more with how shallow and self-absorbed frequent selfie use makes people look.

 

The lens on my phone is on the back, so I have to have the back of the phone pointing toward me and can't see the image I'm shooting. When you're 5'1", you don't exactly have the reach that's conducive to doing that. The lens on my tablet is on the front, which is a lot easier to work with, but centering the image and keeping the tablet level are a pain.

 

An I right in thinking that the tablet produces a mirror image and the phone doesn't (unless the photo is taken using a mirror, of course)?
