Before I start, I should preface by repeating that ideally long-term hires should be preceded by an hourly hire. That being said, I don't think it's unreasonable to send $50 in advance, especially since you have his real name (why does it have to be Western Union, though, unless the trip is really imminent?). $50 does cover the cost of shuttles to and from the airport, or airport parking (depending on the length of the trip, of course). If you can afford to hire someone long-term, $50 shouldn't be anything you should worry about. You're taking a bigger risk (by hiring someone you haven't met) than $50.

One of the escorts responding here claims that clients send him money so that he can buy his own tickets in advance. I can't imagine doing that in a million years, no matter how well I knew the escort. I guess that if he says so, there must be clients who are willing to do that, but it's pretty hard for me to imagine.

You are right that buying the airplane ticket is evidence enough of your good faith, and that, in general, one shouldn't send "advances." However, if you're confident enough in the escort's skills to buy his ticket (i.e. he's been well-reviewed here), you shouldn't sweat the $50. If you're concerned about the $50 (which I would send by regular check, unless the flight will take off less than 10 days from now), you should ask yourself if you trust this guy enough to buy an airplane ticket.

Oops... just checked with the source, and one of the escorts I was thinking about had the fee part stiffed, not the return air. So I know of ONE escort who the return air thing happened to. And both of these situations, btw, the meet was in a "neutral" travel destination, not the client's home city.

Sorry to exaggerate the "two", but it was not intentional.

An escort who requires $50 in earnest money to be wired by Western Union is either trying to scam you or too desperate for funds. I mean, really, when you think about it: $50??? That's too little to mean anything and sounds more like a request from someone who will never show up.

Regarding the flights: it's lunacy to send money to someone you don't know and even sometimes to someone you do know. M4M is littered with the stories of clients who have lost money that way. If you must fly someone to you, purchase an e-ticket for him. If he won't give you his real name (in which case, do you really want him in your home???), have him choose a travel agent who can book a ticket for him. You can arrange payment with the travel agency, insisting that your credit card details remain private. If this isn't satisfactory to him, he's too high maintenance to deal with.

Alternatively -- and a much better plan in this situation, in my opinion -- eliminate the craziness and just fly to his location yourself and book a hotel room.

Regarding escorts who insist on certain airlines: I've booked flights about a zillion times for friends, family and others, including escorts. When I do so, my goal is to provide them with transportation that is efficient and reasonable for them. Within that context, I use whatever resources I want to provide the ticket. Sometimes that's a paid-up fare and sometimes it's a ticket based on miles. I do not expect those for whom I am providing transportation to insist on a particular carrier, insist on receiving miles for their flights or -- worse -- insist on flying first class. People who do these things are insensitive boors.

Ideally

From an escort point of view as well, this would be the ideal. In nearly all of the overnights I have ever done it has been the case.

>One of the escorts responding here claims that clients send

I am not sure why. In one instance, I was flying to Boston, in part to see two different clients for overnights over the space of two extended weekends (with a trip elsewhere in between). I have never met either of these clients in advance. I spent a great deal of time with both of them in e-mails and by telephone, in some cases, at my own expense in long distance toll charges, to establish that the client and I would be a good fit. One of these clients is a long time poster here in the Message Center and has also reviewed a number of escorts. The other client had only recently started hiring and had just submitted one review when he contacted me. I asked the second client, the newcomer to hiring, to send me a small deposit which did not even cover the cost of my plane ticket. Given that I had no history with him, I believe it was fair and the gentlemen agreed to send it to, which he did by personal check. The second client, even though I had never met him, I agreed to see for an overnight without benefit of any kind of deposit.

Neither paid for plane tickets. Since I made the decision to take the risk and otherwise travel east, I went ahead and paid for my own ticket. The deposit I requested was simply to have the client show good faith.

In other instances, I have purchased my own plane ticket and the client has reimbursed me. In several instances, in advance of our meeting, the client has reimbursed me for a ticket I purchase to see him. I have yet to ask that a client pay for a ticket in advance of purchase but I neither see this as unusual, given the nature of the trust I endevor to establish, neither do I consider it boorish, given that I frequently book (in conjunction with the needs and schedule of my client) and schedule my own airline ticket, nearly always at my own expense, until reimbursed.

Well, I guess that would work if:

1. You had the client's address

2. You were meeting the client in his

home town

3. You were willing to subjugate

yourself to arrest for vandalism

4. You were willing to advertise the

fact that you were an escort

What would your actions be if the situation were reversed, which is much more likely? As a client you set up a meeting with an escort in his home town, fly there, book a hotel, and in return the escort doesn't show or is a true misrepresentation of what he advertised?

Personally, I for one, am not sending any money to an escort I have never met, whether it is $10 via Western Union or 1/2 of the overnight/weekend fee. If the escort demands any more than an e ticket, then "see you", as there are many, many, many other escorts.

How many complaints have you seen by escorts being ripped off in those situations compared to clients being ripped off?? What is the ratio of dishonest clients to dishonest hustlers, pretending to be escorts??? Anyone who would send money to an unknown escort, deserves no sympathy when he is ripped off!

I agree with most of what you say. Most of the time when I've hired someone, he's going with me, so the choice of the airline is decided. Once, however, I hooked up with an escort out of town, and he later agreed to come to me for a very reasonable fee. There was little difference between the price of his preferred airline and that of the lowest available fare, so I felt it only fair to let him select the airline.

Certainly I can't imagine forking out for a first-class ticket, or even for an upgradeable airfare, unless the upgradeable airfare happened to be the best available. Nor can I imagine an escort preferring a first-class ticket over pocketing the cash for the difference between those airfares.
