I used a regular 9" cake pan, but I have one with higher sides than my others so I used that.

My mother had cake pans in two parts where the bottom slipped into the sides. I know I'm doing a crappy job of explaining that, maybe this picture will help.

It makes it SO much easier to get the cake out of the pan after baking, but they are surprisingly difficult to find these days. I ended up with the "high side" one simply because it's the only pan of that type I could find when I wanted a third cake pan.

I actually have a set of 9" and 8" like this that I got from my grandmother when she passed away. I think you can still find them at restaurant stores but I haven't seen them in a long time.

Would a springform pan work?

You are trying to kill all chances of having a cooking and recipes topic, aren't you?

Oh, just curious: do you use the large- or small-pearl tapioca?

I absolutely hate tapioca anyway. But sure, if peeps want to post recipes (or links to recipes), I'm all for it.

Speaking of which, what happened to that Not a Book Forum? Maybe BVB can report on his New Year's resolution.

I was about to say he had a springform pan, but I can see it's a little different. But yes, same idea. Should work fine.

My latest conquest is "How To Be Here" by Rob Bell. One chapter in, it is another 'self-help' book, but then again, I need a lot of help, so I'm enjoying it. Saturday is book day, so I'll know more by this evening. ;)

BVB, considering your other passion for the "Bubbly", I think it would be hard for you to know "where you were when you got there" ?

I think having a food /recipe/cooking topic would be delightful, stupendous, delicious, fabulous, smashing, terrific, amazing, super colossal.... I just don't have any words to describe how nice it would be. So, yes we should.

Has all your reading so far this year of the self-help variety? Not knocking it, but mixing it up can be helpful, too. I'd like to put a plug in other genres. Fiction helps broaden the mind and imagination. Other types of non-fiction show us where we've been.

Irrespective, reading is good.

Well unfortunately that seems to be the problem.

Oh agreed, I just finished a Rachel Maddow book, but politics can really mess with your mind...So this was a new direction for me, well this decade anyway. ;) I did the whole 'self-help' BS back in the 80's, and really drank the kool-aid, but this time around, I'm much more self-aware. Just got to this stage of life and turned around and said.."Now what?" It was weird. So before I start lookin around for a bridge to jump off, I thought I'd pour a nice cocktail and take a stab at this book. So far..so good! :D

"Life is not something that happens to you. You take what you have been given and you get to shape it, form it, steer, make it into something. And you have more power to do this than you realize"

I know, simple stuff really, but sometimes it takes other people to tap us on the shoulder and remind us.

I don't know which I like better: ruggelach or hammentaschen.

Hammentaschen is a bit dryer. In fact I am just finishing up a batch of raspberry ones I bought last week.... I like the flakyness of the Rugelach....

In my experience, rugelach, which has a thicker, more viscous filling and less of it, is dryer and more difficult to eat. I think of hamentaschen as the Jewish equivalent of a Danish. But maybe that's because the last hamentaschen I had was really wonderful stuff from a Jewish bakery somewhere in or near Takoma Park, Maryland that the friend who served it and gave me some to take home felt produced pastries as authentic as anything in New York, where she grew up.

The flakiness of Rugelach

Is okay in a pinch

And though I’ll knock a Kugel back

I’d rather have a Blintz

Omg! That looks soooo good! I'd switch it up with a lil salsa and avacado to give it more flare and pop with color. Damn Mexis gotta put avacado and salsa on everything! :p

Hugs,

Tonights dinner will be chili. With yes avacado, salsa, sour cream, cheese and salsa as garnish. I've been on an avacado kick lately.

YES avocado is heathly, you should offer it as an ad-on to your service. Kinda like at Subway when you order a foot-long....

If you can get past her voice, Pati's Mexican Table is a good switch-up cooking show. She makes all her own salsas, and lots of her desserts include both my favorite food groups: chocolate and caramel. She's also good with cocktails. http://fun.resplace.net/Emoticons/Alcohol/Drunk.gif
