On a personal note, you've now got me questioning my avatar on this site. I've used it for many years and it does represent my screen name. But, is political correctness now dictating that I should change because I may be offending someone?

 

Your avatar does not offend me but it does give me the impression that you are likely to react with a "fuck you" attitude if someone disagrees with you. I assume people put some thought into their selection of an avatar and you've decided that you want people to think you've got a "fuck you" attitude. If that's the first impression you want to make then it's the perfect avatar for you. More power to you.

I was a forum member for several years before I added my avatar.

I put a fair amount of thought into it.

As I also did regarding my forum handle.

The two actually provide a pretty good indication about me in this hobby.

It's funny how people interpret the same thing differently. One Finger's avatar makes me chuckle, it fits his screen name and I'm not at all threatened by it. I don't take it as a reflection of his attitude in general, it's edgy and pushes the envelope and I like that. Of course, I don't go around trying to find something I don't like about someone.. but that's just me.

 

On the OP's original question, generally I'm turned off by the one-finger salute in escort ads.. but there's probably some hidden meaning to which I'm not privy. BVB, you said you "get it".. What is "it"?

Just for the record.... My avatar only indicates my pride in my Scottish heritage. The words mean "until judgement", but signify 'Scotland Forever'.

Interesting. All of my grandparents were Scottish, born in Scotland. My mother's parents traveled back and forth from Boston before my mother was born. She was the youngest of 8 children. Everyone was proud of being Scottish, but it was not talked about much, despite my oldest aunts and uncles attending public schools in Scotland during long visits.

On a daily basis, I'm around a much younger crowd than most, so I realize it's a generational thing. As you mentioned, while many here seem offended by it, it has a different connotation among the "younger" crowd, and like many things, it carries different meanings depending on the situation in-which it is done. But you know me CB, I'm not here to argue one way or the other. If someone finds it offensive, then don't hire the escort. Pretty simple stuff really. Like yourself, I chuckled when I say Onefinger's avatar the first time, others obviously found it a little offensive. I would encourage Onefinger to do whatever he damn well pleases...LOL

I am not attracted to this guy so the finger pic doesn't make a difference to me...I personally have seen some guys that give the finger and I think its kind of sexy. I don't think that a guy giving the finger is telling me to fck off or being dismissive. To me its like a guy wearing a harness or a leather jacket in a pic. Its a look. This guy had 3 different finger pics though which was odd.
