Come again. This does not make sense.

A co-worker of mine went for his first time this year and had nothing but good reviews. It's always so hot there this time of year. The combination of 90degrees, 90percent humidity, the afternoon thunderstorm, and combination sweat/beer, makes me a little dizzy.

New Orleans, its hot, humid, and stinks a few weeks a year, it's like living in the vagina of the U.S. ;-) But I'm glad to call it home... even though I'm no longer there.

I've always preferred Halloween. The first few cool days of the year arrive (I remember riding to the main event in Ryan Matthew's Jeep and thinking I'd lost my nipples in the 40degree night) , and there's really no city more magical for such an otherwise commercialized holiday. So I'll be there. Anyone else?

Even if you don't go the main event, there are tons of things to see. Walk through the quarter late at night on the 31st and listen for drums. Follow the sound and you'll find a voodoo priestess and her followers. I believe they leave the Lafayette Cemetery and St. Louis #1 open for the night for worshippers and hoodlums. Take a nice day tour. ;-)

The main event for the gays (ehe) is Saturday night, but the Quarter will be packed with costumed tricks-(or/and)-treaters the 31st, addding another level of freneticism to the the usual debauchery.

Oh, stay at the W on Chatres and invite me too.

Jacabno-it would be a pleasure to entertain such an entertaining person such as yourself!

I will be pricelining it-but will do 4 stars,might get the Sheraton-but the W's don't participate in P'line.

If the whyndham does a sale I might go for the Bourbon Orleans.

Halloween sounds like fun and cooler then August/September...

Still wonder about anyone's experiences at Southern Decadence? ;-)

Well, since no one else is posting :)

Decadence 2004 was somewhat drab in contrast to the SD's of yesteryear. It seemed more like an impromptu street festival, rather than an organized event, with people mostly just standing in the street gossiping with eachother. At times, i was waiting for someone to announce the potluck dinner was starting...

Highlights this year included Martha Wash performing in front of one of the new gay bars, Shirley Q Liquor keeping the crowd at The Pub in stitches, bumping into cutie Brandon Baker in front of The Hit Parade and Sunday night at Oz, where DJ Barry Harris spun a truly awesome set. Other haunts like Corner Pocket seemed a little too busy with a real lack of hot guys on the bar to keep people's attention. If it weren't for Taboo flying guys into CP to dance, it might have been a truly disasterous few days.

I suppose i just remember when Decadence was, well... Decadent. You could see sex on the street, the vibe was totally energetic and positive while the 'Big Dick' contest rocked The Pub on the traditional Thursday night. With all of the protesting in the past year or so, the city has really forced the bars to clean things up. While it's not what it used to be, it's still a good excuse to stay & play in one of the most beautiful cities in the USA.

Added, with New Orleans's penchant for great food, music and culture, it might do someone some good to get away from gay Bourbon St for awhile and check out their other options.

I'm headed to NO for Halloween, so here's hoping it a bit more hopping. Now all i need to do is figure out what i'm going to be this year. I know it will involve tight, brief-style underwear :)

Warmest Always,
