I'm reminded why I didn't read the Sun Times when I lived in Chicago. x(

Two women and seven men (some of the men dressed as women) were arrested? OH THE HORROR! THE HUMANITY!

There must be an election coming up. (Oh, yeah... there is.)

These stings have been going on in that area for years. Can't tell you the number of times I've sat in restaurants or clubs and watched it:

Boy works corner, John stops, cops pull up and make arrest. Five minutes later, rinse and repeat (with the same boy!).

The cops, the writer of this article, and the Johns would probably be surprised that the most important bit of news I got from this article is that there's still street trade in Chicago. LOL

When was North Ave. ever a place for street trade???? Does he mean Hubbard? Probably.

It is so silly for them to waste valuable Police resources to arrest two consenting adults who plan on making each other happy.

Mean while there are corners in every minority neighborhood where children can go buy drugs. Amazing how they never get busted. Well, at least the ones who pay off the cops don't.

When I've taken the Kennedy to North Avenue late at night (for the 24 hour Home Depot), I've often seen prostitutes walking the streets. They're mostly very sleezy drugged up women.

I think the reason they're making a big deal about Clark & Belmont is that street prostitution has really increased at that intersection. And as gentrification has moved into high geer in the neighborhood, pressure has increased to "clean up the streets."

The yuppies are taking over and ruining the neighborhood at the same time.

It's not the first time. :-(

Many years ago, Rush Street downtown was the "happening" place in Chicago. And that's where all the gay clubs were.

As gay clubs got moved out (in the name of "cleaning up the neighborhood") they staked their claim on North Halstead which at the time was one of the roughest and riskiest parts of town. It became a gay ghetto in the most literal sense of the word ghetto. Gay businesses moved in and cleaned up the area and made it stylish. Now the yuppies are moving in, and chasing gays further North.

I can see a time when those rainbow pylons commemorating "Boystown" actually come down because there's no Boystown left. If you ever get a chance to chat with one of the bar owners who lived through the last migration you'll get an earful. History is repeating itself. <sigh>
