That's fine, but to think that condoms alone (without PrEP) is ok, but that PrEP alone (without a condom) is not, that is where I disagree.

you prefer to use only PrEP or only condoms?

I prefer to use condoms, am I stupid? I survived the 80's using condoms.

Condomshaming?

Well, I'm always using PrEP and I use condoms when appropriate and requested. I'm not shaming anyone or anything.

@marylander1940 @Lance_Navarro will you two fucking stop! Take your bickering at each other in fucking private!

I feel that we are exchanging ideas and opinions, not bickering. I see bickering and name calling all the time on here and I don't see this as such. If it starts going there, I'll certainly stop.

Greg, they are not bickering, they are just discussing the issue! Marylander, you are arguing at cross purposes with Lance. He is not saying that there is anything wrong with using condoms. My read is that he is saying that condoms and PrEP are both valid precautions in their own right and that choosing to use either or both should be respected. In no way is he condom-shaming.

@Lance_Navarro the more you say in here the more I like you!

Mwah!!! Thanks @mike carey for recognizing and reiterating what I'm saying. I don't wish to shame anyone for anything, that's not in my nature. I can understand entirely the comfort that comes with what one has known and practiced for over 30 years (condom use). It certainly helped to save thousands, if not millions of lives and I can understand why people see not using them as irresponsible, but like all complicated issues, it can't be viewed so simplistically. The world isn't black and white, but rather all shades of grey. I volunteer at a clinic here in SF, so I have a good understanding of all that helps to combat HIV. First, encouraging regular testing (every 3 months ideally) so that everyone knows their status. Second, making sure that those who are positive have access to ART (anti-retroviral treatment) regardless of ability to pay, in order to help make the virus non-transferable. Third, encouraging "safer sex" practices based on what's right for the person, whether that be condoms, PrEP or both. Of course other things, non-sexual fall into this as well, including needle exchange, safe injection sites, and psychological and peer counseling.
