I have a buddy who has returned from Afghanistan recently and who is suffering from PTSD. He was a sniper (and a very good one) and now is having trouble processing what he has done.

He also recognizes that he is suffering from PTSD and is having a lot of trouble with VA, etc. getting help.

Anyone have any advice as to where this guy can get help? (Lives in Houston)

Additionally, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. There is also Camp Hope, but be advised it is a faith based organization....he may or may not want to speak to them.

I have a close friend whom I met in Vietnam, and after endless dealing with the Army was declared 100% disabled with PTSD more that 10 years ago. He was a para legal, but now is just helping people with VA claims for free. He helped me greatly in dealing with the VA in the last year.

Two problems: He lives in California. And he gets frustrated if people do not follow through fairly quickly. It happened to me when I did not follow his instruction because I had not read the VA form fully.

Funguy: I can help. So, if you want, send me a PM.

I just responded to Funguy about his friend and PTSD. I am sure I asked more questions than he expected. Yes, his friend is doing the right thing in working with an expert on his VA claim.

My VA claim was first turned down. I asked for a second review and that was successful.

Yes the VA is very difficult to work with. But it is worth the effort. I waited almost a year and only found out the results when I started receiving checks in the mail.

I will be happy to answer questions to the best of my ability.

You are all amazing, really getting things done instead of a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit. The way our veterans are treated is one of the biggest scandals in America. Thank you for caring and doing. All I can do is try to support candidates who might actually improve the VA and donate to groups that may or may not use the money to actually help a veteran. So frustrating.

We're beginning to see results from a study at John Hopkins that is very positive (MDMA) and good feedback from vets going to Mexico and being treated with mushrooms. Hallucinogens under proper supervision

seem to help.

Meditation and listening to subliminal CDs can help.

Google search learning strategies or Paul Scheele.

Great way to reprogram the mind

Pm if you want more details

Quite helpful. But it does not address losing the ability to work because of PTSD and extremely serious injuries from all the wars as far back as Vietnam. Vietnam vets suffer from many diseases, including cancer, from exposure in Agent Orange.

It is impossible to track PTSD because like all mental disorders it comes back quickly and unexpected even after many good months.

I am now rceiving a fairly decent disability check every month from the VA; it is a significant difference in my life.
