Ten or so acquaintances that are good for social occasions (going to the bar etc.) Five actual friends. 3.5 can really be counted on. The .5 is someone I have known for more than 30 years. He would be here in a minute if I was sick or in an accident, but isn't the type you would lean on during a bad breakup! :)

Thanks buddy. Actually it is my fault since I rarely share personal things with others especially on Facebook. I guess I can't expect people to be there for me when I don't tell them when I need them.:confused:

I have kept my number of Facebook friends at about 125 for several years. I can read almost everthing 125 people post. I believe I only have one person from this site as a Facebook friends. I am particularly grateful for that one Facebook friend.

Facebook is excellent for keeping in touch with friends who live in Europe, Asia, Africa.........especially when you have a minor message and do not need phones or Skype.

I agree that only 4-5 are really close friends.

"it doesn’t necessarily mean that the term “friend” means the same thing as it did in the pre-Facebook era"

Someone believes that people don't already know this?

I was actually uplifted by the article. I only have 4 or 5 friends (outside of family) that I know I can count on, and I always considered myself as someone having far too few friends. Now I know I'm just average...not too bad .:)
