Beware AOL phishers

A friend, who is not an escort, has had his online identity hijacked by someone who is using his pics and stats to solicit escort business. The phony uses both AOL and gay.com chat rooms to hook interested guys. Trying to figure out the motive, I chatted with the perp in gay.com for a few minutes and asked for a pic.

 

I received an IM from someone whose screen name showed up as "offline," which had a link to a page called "You Have Pics." That website looked very AOL -- professionally done, but requiring a login with screen name and password. The URL was offshore. Since I was already logged in, it was easy not to take the bait. I bet the scam works with others, though.
