Hey guys,

Searched the topics and the Deauville seems to be recommended, however no new info on the hotel since 2003.

Anyone still using the place for short term stays?

Can anyone offer other suggestions as well?

Thanks!

Whatever you do don't stay at the Metropolitan it was horrible, and the people that work there are rude! The website is a total lie it is what it WILL look like once it has been re-furbished hasn't been refurbished yet!

Last December I stayed at the The New Yorker Hotel aka Ramada Inn and Plaza. Their website is:

http://www.newyorkerhotel.com/

It's nothing fancy and the rooms have a definite WW II feeling about them. (Bathrooms are very old w/claw tubs, wrap-around shower curtain, pedestal sink, etc.) No central heat/air but room heaters and window AC in all rooms. I had a great corner room on the 38th floor with a wonderful view from each window. Also didn't have any problems with a couple of "visitors" who spent a few hours with me. ;-)

The things I like about this hotel are:

[li]Close (walking distance) to Penn Station.

[li]Located at a subway stop.

[li]Easy access to both the Village and Times Square.

[li]On-site café (not fancy but convenient).[/li]

I booked in advance at Hotels.Com. From conversations I overheard in the elevator, I realized at least a 35% savings over what others were paying.

It's in a safe location, the staff was friendly, the room was very clean, and I didn't have to mortgage my house to afford it.

The Deauville is a sleezy "by-the-hour" spot. If that's what you want, so be it. If you want a respectable place, hotels.com provides a variety of choices at all prices.
