It was still there a year or so ago. The old guy wo played the electric piano with the vast repetoire of Borscht Belt favorites is no longer. For those of us who remember the Sammys of 25 years ago - the two (at least then) drop dead identical twin waiters found a long lost third (yep, triplets) and opened a place similat to Sammys called - Triplets.

The Scene

A pool table, red neon and trophies scattered everywhere: The decor is classic butch gay bar. Rec room paneling and brick--no fuss, no muss. You certainly won't find any ferns, and that's just the way this laid-back, friendly crowd likes it. The CD jukebox is heavy on the Led Zeppelin and the televisions are always on, largely broadcasting sports but tuned into Disney's "Tarzan" on the last visit. There are peanuts up on the bar for snacking, but that's as far as the amenities extend.

 

The Draw

Still, the Sunday beer blast--$2 for a plastic, Bud-logoed cup--from 1pm to 10pm is so wildly popular it's not unusual for the scene to spill out of the bar and down Weehawken Street. That's not to say other nights are deserted. They're just not flannel-to-flannel packed. The two bathrooms in the rear of the bar, both marked gents, are a dead giveaway as to the boy-girl ratio, but women are welcome.
