Great just when I thought viruses and malware was the worse. Just another reason I don't go on a google porn hunt anymore.

The Android app has been tricking thousands of phone users into thinking they are about to watch X-rated videos when, in fact, they are having their pictures secretly snapped by hackers.

 

The malicious app, Adult Player, then locks users’ phones and threatens to post their photos and smut-seeking activity online unless they cough up $500.

Hey, isn't there a federal agency that's supposed to protect us from cyberterrorism? I think it's called the Department of Homeland Security, or something.

 

Seriously, this is just the tip of the iceberg from the stories I've been reading. It's always easy to intimidate when you throw in labels like "X-rated" or "smut," although it's a little unclear to me why somebody would pay $500 to avoid having a crappy iPhone photo of them posted anywhere. The articles I'm reading also suggest that G-rated people with cloud-based home security networks can also be hacked and locked out of their homes or cars if they don't pay up.

 

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Caveat emptor. Hey, ain't that Latin or something?

I watched Citizen4 again last night. It reminded me how technology has made us prisoners to the ease that it provides us. The movie dealt with only the U.S. government's illegal seizure of its citizen's private material in cooperation of telecom companies. I had to laugh tho when they mentioned that Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, found out that her secure phone had been being monitored by the NSA. She does not look like someone you want to fuck with.
