I have noticed that from time to time guys will ask how a hotel is and I often find this site http://www.tripadvisor.com/ quite helpful in making sleeping arrangements. The reviews are posted by plain folk like us. You have to keep in mind though that each stay is different and folks experience and see things differently. Hope this helps some of you out in finding the right hotel.

Hugs,

Greg

P.S. I highly recomend kimpton hotel properties. When I am SF and Chicago that is where I always stay. Helpful, open minded and knowledgable staff.

Of course, you have to be careful in that the bidding for travel website gets reviews from people who've been assigned to a particular hotel through Priceline. Often, hotels have "Priceline rooms" which are inferior to their other rooms, and which they wouldn't want to give to their "full-fare" guests. Not that I'm knocking Priceline or that website, mind you. Bidding for travel is one of my favorite websites, and I try to use Priceline whenever possible (although there has to be significant savings for me to use them).

A lot of good advice comes through TripAdvisor. I'm not sure how well they screen for fake reviews. Of course, a hotel is not an escort. Travelocity also has some reviews, but I've tried to put reviews up through their site, and they haven't gone through (I eventually gave up), so I don't find their reviews as reliable. They must pick the reviews they want or something.

I use trip advisor all the time, have sent many people from this board over there.I also use and post at bidding for travel.

I am begining to grow disenchanted with priceline.Since they raised their fees and have not been adding hotels to their areas the prices are not the great bargains that they were a year(or more)back.

Like the above poster mentioned,if I am not going to save at least 50%,than it is not worth it for me to put up with the restrictions.

Still will bid,but I hold the line at 50% of the lowest internet rate.

Useful tip! (The fact that rooms you book via Priceline may be inferior to those offered "regular" guests.) From my own experience with Hotwire, this is --sometimes-- indeed the case. It seems to be particularly true when booking in places like NYC. On my last trip I got an excellent price at a midtown hotel and was given what seemed to be an upgraded broom closet -- no space for even a chair! (But it was certainly a good price!)
