In the below linked ad, dated five days ago, he is age 21 and his name is Brandon.

Thank you coriolis, he does say new in town in the LA ad so he could have come from Richmond but I first saw his LA ad over 5 days ago. It's difficult to know who is real or not. I guess the only way to find out is when we actually meet them in person. I'm glad there is a forum like this to share info. The funny thing is the name he is using Brandon Banks.... I actually know another escort using the name Brandon Banks, he lives in Vegas. I've met him a couple of times, great guy! He's better looking than the guy in these two ads.

Speaking of funny things and fake ads, there is a different ad that runs every couple of weeks in the U.S. that contains photos of an escort I know very well who lives in Spain.

 

The real escort in Spain speaks no English.

 

When I called the phone number in the U.S. fake ad, the guy answering (in English) insisted the photos were of him.

 

How do we stop this abuse? We can't.

 

It doesn't matter which website has the ad. Rentboy, rentmen, backpage and others all contain fake ads.

 

Every so often we get lucky and meet a gem from a legitimate ad. That is what keeps us looking at the ads and responding to them.

Given the nature of the business, I can easily see an escort not calling back just because he had a missed call. One guy did that years ago, when I was pretty closeted, my roommate answered the phone, and it was pretty awkward. You can leave a non-committal message, like "I saw your ad and wondered if you had any appointments available", and let him know it's okay to call back. Or just try calling again.

It is infuriating. Only way to beat him I think is to report him as running a prostitution business to his landlord.
