Hey All-

I'll be headed to DC for a long weekend in March and was wondering about what area is best for a hotel. I usually stay at the Radisson at 22nd & P and it's alright but was wondering if there is a better part of DC to "bed down".

Thanks

Dupont Circle

The Omni is a four star just slightly towards Adams Morgan (I want to say above Dupont Circle, but I have no honest clue); I never stayed there, but a friend did and I also visited a client there. It looked like a great hotel and the gym was decent. You are also close to the "gay" gym in the Dupont area. There is also the Westin Embassy Row, which is right off the circle and about 55 feet from the Metro station. The Westin has a decent gym, high speed internet in SOME rooms (make sure to request this IN ADVANCE) and great beds.

Both hotels are coming up on Priceline right now for a fair rate, although the Omni is not inexpensive, even on Priceline. These are the only four star hotels in that zone, so you cannot go wrong bidding it.

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt, Metro Center. There is a gym in the complex, which guests are allowed to use for a reasonable fee akin to a day pass. I think it even has a pool but you should call the hotel to inquire. There is a also a three star Marriott at Metro Center and one in Woodley Park (not far from Adams Morgan). Both of these hotels have high speed internet access for a daily fee and both are nice enough, as well as being close to a Metro line. I found pretty much anyplace near the metro was convenient for staying in D.C. but I did enjoy being in Dupont Circle the last time, which made it possible for me to go people watch at the bars and shop/dine in the "gay" heart of town without having to travel there as you might say from Michigan Avenue to Halstad in Chicago.

Marriott you could likely book directly for a good rate, but the next two trips I do to D.C. this year will also be done (hotel wise) on Priceline.

Have fun!

It all depends on what type of hotel you generally like and what you are interested in doing while you are staying in DC. If you only want to hang out in the hotel and travel by metro to everything else, then as Franco mentioned, the Omni Shoreham might be good. But, I wouldn't stay there, as it is way out of the way of everything gay.

The Radisson on P street is good if you like to go to Dupont circle and the bars/restaurants in that area. Although, the circle (also known as the "fruit loop") isn't nearly as gay as it used to be. And, the bars in the area, Mr. P's, the Fireplace, and Omega (formerly the Frat House) are all pretty lame bars now. The only decent place is Apex (formerly Badlands) but this is a dance club, not a bar.

So, I would probably stay over closer to 17th street, where the only decent gay bars in DC are located. Cobalt is on 17th and R, JR's is on 17th and P and Chaos is in between the two. Over on 14th street is Titan/Hamburger Mary's. These tend to be the hot spots as of late. There is a Marriot Courtyard on Rhode Island and 16th street that is pretty decent.

Or, if you are in for some hotels that are a little "different", you might want to try the Rouge, the Topaz, the Old Tabbard Inn or the Helix. All very funky, cool, swank kind of places with a little more charm and pizzazz. They are all located within an easy walk of 17th street.
