Curiosities about hiring in smaller markets...

I'm traveling to Charlotte in the next few weeks and decided to check the listings there. Some of you may have seen my other thread...I'm making my first hire soon, equipped with a much better understanding of how to be a good client!

 

Anyway, I noticed that there are only a handful of escorts in Charlotte on either site, 6 on RB, 2 on RM and 12 on M4RN. Charlotte is a pretty big city with a lot going on and a pretty affluent population, so I was really surprised to see how few escorts are working there. When I look at a comparably sized city like Seattle, there are so many more ads (22 RB, 14 RM, 24 M4RN). Please bear with the amateur statistician here.

 

It made me wonder a few things, some about "the lives of others" and some about hiring.

 

"The lives of others" questions...

 

First, how much does Charlotte's southern location have to do the seemingly small market there? I realize no one may really have an answer for this.

 

Two, for people living in these smaller markets, how quickly do you end up abandoning your searches "at home" when you figure there's likely not going to be someone new? I split my time between two much bigger markets but would rather hire when traveling. I can "hit refresh" in anticipation every few days leading up to a trip to see if someone new is up or traveling, when there's not currently a lot of what I want, like in Charlotte. However I think it must get frustrating for you guys who live there when there may not be someone you're excited about or you want some variety.

And is there somewhere I'm missing to look?

 

I'm not comfortable with the Craigslist or Backpage route and the only guy I'm into is on M4RN. I don't know if it's because of the design or layout of that site or that everyone only seems to have camera phone pics there...but I perceive the guys there as somehow less professional. Is this an irrational read of things? I'm open to possibilities, especially given how eye-opening your feedback was on my first thread!

living in a smaller market has it's drawbacks--including not having ample choices for masseurs and escorts; I think you are looking in all the right places, too; it sounds like you are able to travel to larger markets with greater selection; I find that it makes planning a trip to a larger city that much more exciting if I can include a visit with a guy while there; and, who knows, someone may appear in your local market that may end up being a regular thing for you right at home!

I agree. Living in a small market sucks. Very few choices and ads that don't change. But, give M4RN a chance. The last guy I met advertises on RB and M4RN, uses the same pics on both ads, and was amazing. I've met 2 other guys that advertise on M4RN, among other places, and had good experiences. Do your due diligence and have fun.

I lived in a smaller city in Cali before I moved to LA. Everything was harder to find there: cleaners for the house, movers, health care, and--yes--escorts. I had to choose between limited options and often the results weren't great. It's still a challenge to find good people in LA but there's so much more choice it's easier to move-on to somebody else when someone you hire doesn't work out. Again, that's just speaking in general.

 

I guess that's one reason I prefer a big city even with the drawbacks. Just more of everything.

As a long time hire-er, I can tell you that there is nothing wrong with Men 4 Rent Now. In fact it often seems to have more choices than Rentboy does in smaller towns. I'm going to assume you look at full M4RN website and not the mobile version. As an FYI-the really bad thing about M4RN -as well as Rentmen-is that they will keep expired ads on the site. The way you can tell on the full website is that the Location Box moves up and covers the Contact Box. On the mobile website you can't tell. Expired ads will say 'email' as the contact method-but the emails won't be sent to the escort (although the escort will receive email from M4RN asking them to renew their because they have emails pending). On the other hand some of the 'Email Me' ads on the mobile website are active ads. To tell the difference you have to go to the full site. On Rentmen it will tell you that the ad us expired. And Rentboy doesn't carry expired ads.

There is an option on M4RN at the bottom of Accept Conditions Page where you can choose to see the full site even if you are on a tablet or phone. It must be a cookie or something that does it with a time limit. It will automatically take you to the full website for at least a few hours if chosen.

Interesting questions laben. I am in a smaller city, maybe a bit larger than Charlotte, and I have met quite a few really excellent guys through M4RN who were traveling through my area. One or two do put up an ad on RB and/or Rentmen too, but the majority only advertise on M4RN.

 

I have asked and many guys have told me that they like the ability to advertise in up to 3 cities they will be traveling to, with the dates they'll be in each city/town. There are about 10 excellent escorts I would never have enjoyed if I hadn't seen their ads and contacted them through M4RN!

 

When I'm not getting any of my regulars on M4RN visiting here, I check the site daily to see if any new advertiser intrigues me. As for traveling to bigger markets myself, that is one of the main reasons I travel at present! I always contact 3 to 4 guys to schedule some delightful sessions and have accrued a number of repeat escorts in Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas and NYC!
