WASHINGTON (AP) — Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock, a rising Republican star already facing an ethics inquiry, has spent taxpayer and campaign funds on flights aboard private planes owned by some of his key donors, The Associated Press has found. There also have been other expensive travel and entertainment charges, including for a massage company and music concerts.

The expenses highlight the relationships that lawmakers sometimes have with donors who fund their political ambitions, an unwelcome message for a congressman billed as a fresh face of the GOP. The AP identified at least one dozen flights worth more than $40,000 on donors' planes since mid-2011.

The AP tracked Schock's reliance on the aircraft partly through the congressman's penchant for uploading pictures and videos of himself to his Instagram account. The AP extracted location data associated with each image then correlated it with flight records showing airport stopovers and expenses later billed for air travel against Schock's office and campaign records.

Why do I see the next leg of this Schock story being a chatty rent boy, jilted ex or molested House Page coming forward...

Thanks for posting this Marylander. I was just about to post the same thing. Apparently he has already learned how to play the game on "The Hill".

I think we both have a crush on him.

I saw him once flying from Chicago to DCA, very hot guy, surprisingly short for the way he looks on pictures (5'9), maybe he'll have a career as a pornstar in the future.

Sad that people with an admitted "crush" on him are apparently hoping and rooting for a massive downfall. That is something about these forums I will probably never understand. I have never been a fan of forced "outing" of anyone am uncomfortable with the sort of armchair sport some make of the downfall of others.

Given the latest stories hitting so many news sources, if nothing else, the congressman fits the pattern of many other Illinois politicians (including the current head of the Executive Branch who... lest we forget... comes from the same state) -- and Illinois has sadly given to the country in the last half-century more than its share of sleezy politicians and religious leaders (e.g. Jessy Jackson and others) always pushing the envelope in terms of "ethics." I had hoped that this young, handsome (yes, I admit he is that) congressman would be above all that, but it must be something "in the water" in Peoria and in Illinois in general. Look at the mayoral race in Chicago today -- and at the long string of Democratic and Republican politicians who have tarnished the "Land of Lincoln". If Aaron is straight he's sending the exact opposite vibes. Talk about patterns, can you make a good attempt at defending politicians from the Civil War states (many of whom forgot THEY LOST) and too many Republicans who are about as un American in their thinking and behavior as possible? Talk about giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Republicans including their confederate bed fellows prefer personal attacks against their peers and feeding raw (rotted) meat talk to their rabid constituents versus actually laying out the math for reducing government spending and the deficit. Aaron is just another conservative politician in name only. Behind the scenes he is being caught in the pockets of those who have money for his campaign and apparently increasing lavish lifestyle. He is showing himself to be a crook, like so many others in office. The problem with American politics is that it takes way too much money to gain office, stay in office and only lobbyists and millionaire/billionaires that can fund these crooks are represented.

You can quote me if you want.

"Massive downfall"... He's hot and short like many pornstars , that's a compliment and a joke too.

If he's gay, I hope one he comes out if he wants to and it would be nice to see the folks in Peoria keep voting for him.

Now about "people from this forums", there are a few examples of a handful of guys who enjoy badmouthing escorts knowing they could trace a review back to the author but not a posting, I'm not one of them.

I don't have a crush on this Congressman, nor do I wish a "Massive downfall". He needs to be outed for his abject hypocrisy, and it looks like that is happening. :D

You changed my mind, I'm for this outing now!

"Forced outing"? No, if a closet case is voting against gay civil rights issues, it's reporting on government hypocrisy -- no different from, say, a so-called "right to life" politician secretly choosing to have an abortion. That's what newspapers are for.

+1.....Not to mention the private jets, paid for on the tax payers dime. We're a long ways from the Downton Abbey decor.

That's usually a Bible-thumping "family values" toad who forces his mistress to have an abortion. Yes, they're fodder for the press.

I'm against "outing" as sport, such as the crap Perez Hilton used to do, but hypocrites deserve exposure. Pols who hide in the closet while voting against gay rights are just such a beast. They are, in fact, the WORST sort of panderer.

Or their daughter.

Hypocrites deserve exposure, particularly when carrying on charades via the public trough. And when they fashion themselves as anti-gay / fiscal conservatives, then wear pink belts and fly private jets.

You see why I don't have a crush on him Adriano?

Bye-bye Aaron. Hope you becomes an escort!

WASHINGTON — Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., will resign after weeks of news reports about questionable spending on everything from airplane flights to his office decor.

Schock, 33, was a rising star in the GOP and one of the party's top fundraisers. His downfall began in February when The Washington Post reported on his bold new office decoration, which his staff said was modeled after the PBS television show Downton Abbey. The office staff told the Post the interior designer had done the work for free.

I just have one question for the now infamous Mr. Schock...."What were you thinking?"

Posted

Betcha all the money in my pocket he trolls this site. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

And resigning because "all these questions have been a distraction"? How 'bout just fess up, boy. "I did something wrong" "My fault" "I made mistakes"

Any of these is preferable to shifting the blame somewhere else. It's really the "distractors" fault. Give Me a F&%$#*g Break!!

Bye bye, AAAAron. We'll miss you......

He has resigned and asked for "forgiveness"... according to some reports... Not sure the congressional ethics office can pursue him once he resigns, but the Speaker of the House now has another great example of a "good republican"....

Schock's no longer under the jurisdiction of the ethics committee, now that he has resigned. However, lawyers at the Justice Department's public integrity section, the Federal Election Commission, or state or federal prosecutors in Illinois still could examine the allegations leveled against him to determine if he violated the law.
