There is currently a splendid exhibit of Dale Chihuly's glass artworks in the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in South Miami. It is the largest outdoor exhibition ever of Chihuly's works with 28 major installations plus a number of works in the new art gallery at the Garden. The exhibit is open 7 days a week, and also on Thursday and Sunday nights the Garden is open and all the works are lighted. There are several places to eat, either indoors or outdoors, in the Garden. It is located 35 miles south of downtown Fort Lauderdale, and is easy to locate. This coming weekend will also be the Art Wynwood Fair in Miami in the Arts and Design area and will showcase many artists and studios and lots of graffiti art. The Rubell Family Museum is right in the middle of it all. If you are going to be in South Florida this week, both locations are highly recommended.

The glass sculptures of Chihuly are found throughout the 78 acres of the Botanic Gardens.

In addition, you will see other beautiful things. When the Fairchild absorbed the American Orchid Society three years ago, it took all the orchids in the collection and spread them through the Gardens - hanging on trees, growing in rotting tree trunks, springing up from the ground. Wherever you walk through the gardens, you will come across spectacular orchids.

"Sapphire Star" is the center of a very large installation called "Blue Mille Fiori"

"Palazzo Ducale Tower" - is a magnificent white and clear glass tower.

Be sure and walk through the Butterfly Garden, because that is where the seven Macchia Bowls are on display, as well as seven very large "Fiery Orange Basket Bowls."

Chihuly, along with some chemists, has created a new polymer/plastic, which is much lighter than glass and allows him to create new and larger forms. This is a very large and playful sculpture rising high through the tall trees. Sculpture began in stone and bone and wood, and then moved on to bronze. That was it for many centuries. But then sculptors began to use iron and steel and welding techniques, rather than casting. Chihuly is trying to expand the available materials again.

Thanks, I try that with Dropbox but the links won't work in the img function. It may be the links on Dropbox are too long or something. I can post the links. But not make them come up as pictures.

The length should not matter. Perhaps if you post one of your links here,

I or someone else could see what the problem is.

I'm not sure that's true as it seems to me that when I've tried in the past, really long URLs won't work in the img function. But I will try. I appreciate you taking an interest and trying to help me.

So here goes a Chihuly picture of mine. It's in Seattle at his permanent exhibition below the Space Needle.

The Dropbox link that I put in the img function is "https://www.dropbox.com/s/zh5da8tqtvucn9h/Photo%20Feb%2009%2C%2019%2045%2023.png?dl=0'

Gman,

Dropbox was having trouble with people breaking into accounts with images, so they put a couple new levels of security into place to prevent this. They also prevent pictures from being displayed without careful usage. [i don't really understand this.] but if you replace http://www.dropbox.com with dl.dropboxusercontent.com, the image appears easily.

Have fun.

"Red Reeds in the Tropical Forest." There were several groups of these reeds in various

clearings in the forest. As the sun lit them and moved across the sky, they glowed.

The "Lavender and White Herons" was one of several groups, of various colors,

in and around a waterfall and tropical forest with many orchids.
