I have always completely supported his position on the Vietnam War and being drafted. And I am sure Muhammed Ali has no second thought.

 

But, I had a close friend who recently died at age 71 after a very long battle with Parkinson's. The medication for Parkinson's is very effective but complex and hugely expensive. Luckily, my friend spent two years in the army, and the VA supplied most of the medication for free, or a nominal cost. Even though his family is relatively well off financially, I am not sure how they would have survived without the excellent service and care they received from the VA.

 

Again, I am not critical of Muhammad Ali in any way, just pointing out how cruel life can be for all of us.
