I am in need of a French/English translation service. I thought someone in Montreal might know of a resource. This is for personal correspondence, not business.

I need a real live person to do this. Any of the automated translaters, like Google, do a really bad job.

Thanks in advance!

I am not sure what the rates are, but I have see .10 to .15 (cdn) per word.

For short messages, you may try:

http://www.freetranslation.com/

But as with most automated translators, it doesn't always get the idioms correct. This site has a pay service too, but I can not vouch for it, as I only use the free service for short messages.

It really helped when I was writing the Christmas card to my Brazilian cleaning woman. She was thrilled that I took the time to write the card in Portuguese.

I have used that service for very vanilla messages, and its great for that, but anything complex or with any idioms / slang etc., things get mis-translated.

The Canadian Dollarette is getting stronger. Actually, its a case of the US dollar losing some ground. I am paid in US dollars, so believe me, I would like the US dollar to be strong.

Thanks, Ethan (and the others who have replied privately). The community of people on this board are helpful and generous.

Thanks, I'll get in touch privately. (and I was just in DC - had a great time as well).
